God I sure hope not.
I saw one reviewer said there was a cut out, but I think he was seeing the window for the serial number.

andronicusStill didn't see anything that would make me dump my well proven Gen 5 Glocks for this thing. The last two Springfield Armory items I purchased were a Defender series 1911 and a SA 35. The clones are very well made and make me appreciate the classics. This? They'll probably market it as the "Glock Killer" and it won't be.

It won't be a Glock killer, and nothing does. But is still a very good gun. Why dump Glocks? Echelon outdoes Glock in terms of grip comfort for sure. Modularity is a plus, too. We'll see what SA comes with for customization.

JonDaddy82Just handled one in store, WOW. Well thought out handgun and just really points super natural for me. I've been using a done up XDM in IDPA for years now so I have no product reliability complaints. Stock trigger is not Walther good but better than any Glock setup for sure. The grip/texture/slide is currently unmatched, and I own most of all the best players in the game.

RogueJSKOLD THREAD ALERT:
Looks like the Springfield Echelon in 9mm was just adopted as the new duty weapon for the St. Louis County Police Department, replacing the Sig P229R in .40.
St. Louis County was one of the last major US departments I was aware of that had an all-metal DA/SA handgun as their standard issue.
https://www.shootingillustrate...mory-echelon-pistol/quote:
The St. Louis County (MO) police department, which has more than 900 uniformed officers, has officially adopted Springfield Armory’s Echelon 4.5F 9 mm-chambered pistol. The Echelon 4.5F is a striker-fired duty pistol with a host of revolutionary, patent-pending features. The modular and highly adaptable handgun is engineered with superior ergonomics and built to withstand the harshest conditions.
“Springfield Armory has a strong commitment to supporting the law enforcement community,” said Fred Mincks, Springfield Armory’s law enforcement sales manager. “We are proud to have been able to provide such a capable firearm to the St. Louis County police department to help them keep their community safe.”
Driving the modularity of the design is the Echelon’s patent-pending Central Operating Group. Employing cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, it’s an entirely self-contained and serialized stainless steel chassis. The result is a system that is easily moved between available grip modules in seconds.
The pistol also features interchangeable grip modules, allowing it to fit a wide range of officers’ hand sizes. It comes standard with the medium grip and three interchangeable backstraps, while small and large grip modules can be purchased separately. The three backstraps are designed to fit all three grip sizes.
Further adding to the fully ambidextrous Echelon is its innovative Variable Interface System. This system employs patent-pending self-locking pins that exert lateral pressure on the optic’s interior mounting surface for consistent and reliable point of aim/point of impact. The pins can be positioned to fit the footprints of more than 30 popular optics, allowing for an unparalleled direct-mount fit.
“For any department looking for a new weapon system, we can highly recommend the Springfield Armory Echelon series of pistols as a durable, highly configurable platform that can fulfill multiple roles,” said O. Jason Dite, department armorer for the St. Louis County Police. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Springfield Armory and the innovative Echelon models.”

YooperSigsI have an Echelon 4.0 and love it. But flat based 15 round magazines for it are unobtainium. So I got on the Chat function on the SA website and asked when they were due in. No idea. Hope St. Louis Co. has better luck!

VgexWho is making the Echelon mags? Is it HS Products, subcontracted to a 3rd party, like MecGar, or is SA making them stateside?

YooperSigsCustomer service told me the magazines are Croatia made. I asked if they had ever considered letting MecGar take over, but my comment was not appreciated!

I see. So HS products is likely fulfilling contracts for their government. That's frustrating, yet understandable.

Not surprising. Several firearms instructors from St Louis County came to an instructor development class at my agency last year. None of them used the issued SIG for their class participation.
