I generally do the same, but sometimes I’ll put some SFL-0 grease on the rails of 1911s if I have them completely apart. Then oil for maintenance lubrication between cleanings. They like a drop of oil on the barrel hood/locking lugs and along the exposed slide rails and in the disconnector notch (with the slide locked back) every few hundred rounds during a long day of shooting. The oil keeps fouling moving out and keeps stuff slippery.

They should be if they're standard 1911 pattern and the same caliber. Are you saying they wouldn't insert into the gripframe at all? Something's wrong with his gun in that case IMO.

If they insert fine but don't lock in, there may be dimensionall differences either at the front/bottom of the grip where it's notched for the mag baseplate, or at the magazine catch, or both. A gunsmith (or careful measuring and filing by you) should be able to sort it. I'm very surprised that a Colt is (might be) out of spec that badly. My Colts take all mags I have no issues. I had to fit an RIA slightly so it would take all my mags.

Yep, I pushed the mag button and they slid right in. I'll polish, lube it, get it sorted out.

There are 2 types of “Gold Cups”.
The Gold Cup Trophy has the “Commander” style hammer.
The original style full length hammer is on the regular Gold Cups. With my old series 70 GC, I never had hammer bite and I have meaty hands.

As for the subject of lube, I grease the shit out of my 1911 slides unless it’s winter. Then I use grease that is thinned out with some oil. (I use CLP (without the PTFE that settled to the bottom of my jugs) but you can use Lucas oil too.)
