Do you have to strip the original nickel on the frame to have it refinished again?

What's wrong with the original nickel finish if you don't mind my asking?

Cummings Custom Refinishing |
To refinish the alloy frame correctly yes the nickel would need to be stripped. Remember there is no anodize under it and it will depend on what finish you put back on Cummings Custom Refinishing offers Quality Craftsmanship at affordable prices. Going to purchase this P239 in nickel finish but the finish. Looks like there is a lot of scratches on it.
Thanks | |||

If the scratches are minor you may be able to buff them out with Barkeeper's Friend or something similar. I have a P229 Satin Nickel that got "scratches" on the slide by drawing from a leather holster. Those scratches weren't deep enough to feel with a fingernail moving over it but were quite visible to the naked eye. I used a soft sponge and some warm water then gently went over the scratches, letting the abrasive powder do its work. Now it looks brand new. YMMV.
