My buddy has this 229 Equinox Elite 9mm which has Sig Custom Works on the slide and comes in a nice Sig case and coin. He wants to trade even for my CZ Shadow 2. My S2 is just a basic gun which has been converted to SAO. Would you guys make this trade? https://www.sigsauer.com/p229-...x-elite-compact.html https://www.ontargetmagazine.c...quinox-elite-series/

IMO, it's a fair trade if you like the Equinox line. The P229 is a more practical carry gun, while the Shadow 2 is primarily a competition gun. Lately Shadow 2s in DA/SA & SAO have been hovering around $900-1K at online retailers to give you an idea of market value.

I like what Sig has done to those Elite pistols by giving them a 226/228 style slide. Very sharp. Personally, I would do the trade but I am a sucker for the Equinox pistols. Price/cost wise, it appears an even trade.

That Equinox is beautiful and has excellent features.

I'm gonna go the other way....keep the Shadow. The "upgrades" to the Equinox line are cosmetic, and IMO that thing is a display piece or a Barbeque gun at best. The P229 does make a better carry gun than a Shadow, but I'd rather keep it basic on a carry piece, or if I'm going to spring for extra features I'd rather my cash go towards something with more practical upgrades, like a Legion. The Shadow 2, on the other hand, is a shooter. It's going to be more fun as a range toy than any P229. Plus it sounds like you've already put some time and money into it to make it what you want. I wouldn't let it go at this point unless you've really decided you don't like it.

I would never make that trade. The Shadow2 is an outstanding gun. Equinox? I don’t think so. _________________________ 2nd Amendment Defender The Second Amendment is not about hunting or sport shooting.

As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing special about the Equinox, except cosmetic changes from the base Elite. Not custom anything. If you like to pay more for the cosmetic changes, then sure. Not me. And the extras (coin, nice case, Certificate) are just more SIG gimmicks. The Shadow 2 is a step above the Equinox. Q

The Equinox Elites typically bring in the $1200-$1400 range on gunbroker when they come up for sale. CZ Shadow 2’s are literally everywhere and I can buy one from several online shops right now for $899. I’d take the Equinox Elite and if you still want a Shadow 2 go buy one for $899. Can’t get an Equinox Elite anywhere near that.

I guess from a business standpoint you could research/compare the market value of or each, then decide. However, from an actual shooting viewpoint ~ I would favor the Shadow 2 over the Sig by far. I own a Shadow 2 and a Sig P229 Equinox albeit one of the originals. I like the Equinox (I think it may be my first ever Sig) but it may be more bling than performance. Nothing shoots like my CZ except maybe my X-5 or HK Elite and those are a step behind. The CZ is quite a stellar example of workmanship but still if the market dictates a vast market difference then that is something to consider. Good Luck.

From a shootability standpoint I'd never do it, but it's your Shadow 2 to do with as you please. The reason the SIG is as spendy as it is is primarily due to SIG periodically raising their prices on ALL of their hammer guns, as if a hefty four figure price tag is reason enough to somehow make them "special". The Equinox is essentially a 'lipstick on a pig' gun that functionally isn't all that far removed from a basic P229R with an installed SRT kit. But if the money part is too enticing, you actually don't mind the chunky girth of a P229R as a carry, and/or the look of the EE just creams your shorts, well then you have your answer. -MG

Having shot both, I would not make this trade unless you're wanting the Sig realllll bad or you don't want the Shadow any longer. Most Shadow 2's being dumped are by shooters who are upgrading to the optic ready version because everyone wants a red dot for their gamer gun. If you shoot the Shadow 2 on the regular you'll be disappointed.

The CZ is staying with me. I will however be picking up a Sig Legion 229 SAO in the morning .

Thank you Very little |
Good move, Have a Shadow 2 and it's much better than any P226 I've had out of the box, and a buddy had a 226 Equinox, he's kind of a magpie and likes shiny overpriced stock items... it didn't shoot any better or worse than a standard 226.

It seems the CZ Shadow 2’s that have been running sub $1000 were the ones not milled for a red dot. Newer models milled are running above $1000. Personally, I’d trade away an Equinox for a Shadow 2 or Shadow 2 Compact. Keeping the Shadow was the correct path.
