First Time Disappointment with Mac Gar magazines
They're cheap, they're all metal so you don't have to do the Glock flip for them to drop free, and they hold 18 rounds.

Mec-Gar are usually great mags (they are OEM magazine supplier for most gun manufactures), but for 9mm Colt 1911, Metalform magazines are what you want. They have been 100% in my 9mm Combat Unit.
They were/are OEM for Colt 1911 magazines for decades.

Check-Mate supplies current .45 magazines to Colt, and my experience with them has been outstanding as well.

Took the Colt to the range today. The ten round Mec Gars worked flawlessly, the 9 rounders fed one or two rounds at a time. The "Colt" mag functioned perfectly until the gun got quite dirty. I found a couple of old 9mm 1911 mags in my stash (God knows from where)8 round capacity, unbranded, and they worked well. I'll contact Mec Gar for an exchange and try WC mags. Buy once, cry once.

When Wilson management discontinued the CMC XP magazines I favored, I bought a Wilsonized CMC, a Wilson, and a couple of Mecgar 10x9mm because new CMC gave me some XP springs but said "we aren't going to be winding any more of these." so I thought I should plan ahead.
All work in my guns.

I never heard of an 8x9mm for a full size gun, that is what my SA UC takes.

I think if the cartridge didn’t go in straight in the tube it may hang up inside. I slapped the back of the mag to loosen it up. I may load some and let them sit before I go out next time. The 10 rounder, a different design, was easier to fully load. These mags were 100% reliable in my pistol as was the Checkmate Colt mag that came with the pistol.

I also bought Metalform 9 and 10 round 9mm mags for this pistol and had many failures. The rounds usually nose dived in the magazine.

That Colt is gorgeous!!

I disagree I use most of the 9mm mag brands and mecgar has been perfect. I would buy them without hesitation. My only complaint is minor. They make 10 rounders and they have a smallish plastic base pad. When I just picked up a Commander sized 9 I bought a bunch more. They appear to have the same body but the base pad is slightly longer. I don’t like it. On my magwell guns it’s fine buy it looks odd on the others. They too though work as advertised.

I have the “fancy” brands WC and another one I can’t recall the name of and for nearly twice the price of mecgar I would not buy them again. Not worth it. Mecgar has been perfect.

I too have had great success with Mec Gar, but these particular magazines are a failure. They're sending me and RMA. Meantime I'll be buying a few WC mags, which are about 30 percent more expensive.
