I took the new Sig X-TEN to range today. Like several others loading the 15th round in the mags was difficult.
With 15 rds in the mag I had to really thump it with the heel of my hand to get to seat all the way in to the frame. Then it was extremely difficult to rack the slide. With 14 rds it loads smoothly and snaps right in to the frame. I noticed through the mag windows that when there are 14 rds in the mag everything appears normal, each round filling each window. But when I forced a 15th round into the mag, the window for the 13th round had no round in it. The rounds at the bottom of the mag were getting jammed up.Pics below. I’m thinking the mag or mag spring has an issue, maybe as simple as breaking in the mag spring. Except for that the pistol ran flawless.
I only had Magtech 180gr FMJ to shoot, but will be shooting handloads shortly. Also will be getting a Holosun for it, the pic below is 14 rounds at 12 yards with the iron sights. The grip, and sights were very nice. Because of the bull barrel and long slide the recoil and muzzle flip were not an issue. I will try some hollow point hand loads next, I saw where one Youtuber had hollow points that nose dived into the feed ramp.
All in all I’m very happy with it.

Yes. Thanks for the report.

Please keep us in the loop as you get more experience with the pistol.

Congrats on the new 10mm. Let us know how everything goes with it. Try some Underwood ammo if you get a chance.

I like my X Ten. I think the felt recoil is less than the Glock. I also have problems with the 15 round. I am hoping the magazines break in but if not 14 seems to work and I am good with that.

I will be swift in my attack. My venom is packed with enough pride and gun powder to take down

still want to test me, take a step forward.

I took mine out for the first time today. Love the grip, really nice for a 15 round 10mm.

While the gun was very accurate I did experience some failures to feed (3 out of 100) using Federal 180gr. It may have been me as it was the first time out.

The gun definitely has a lot of promise. Clear up the feed issues and my 10mm 1911 is going bye bye as I do not have a need for more than 1 10mm.

How do you find the recoil when compared to the 1911? I expected much more out of the round, didn’t seem much worse than my SP2340 to be honest. ETA I’m shooting the 10mm in a 1911

I did not find the recoil to be too harsh. About on par with my 1911 10mm. I was able to get back on target pretty quick. Not as fast as my 9mm 320 but fast enough to be effective.

Today I returned to the range to test my hand loads and new Holosun 507K X2 green reticle.
First, I’m very pleased with this pistol and Holosun combo. I contacted C&H Precision Weapons about getting an adapter plate for the Holosun and this pistol. They said their Sig Pro RX/Pro Series/AXG to Holosun 407K-507K plate would work.
So I got the plate and Holosun from them, the Holosun was $319.00 and the plate is normally $76.95 but if you buy the optic from them you get 25% off the plate so it was $57.71. The plate fit perfectly and was easily installed. It is really thin, so you can somewhat cowitness with the factory sights on the pistol, see pic. The Holosun held zero through the approximately 100 rds I fired.
The pistol performed without a failure. No feeding, ejecting or primer strike problems. I shot 180 gr FMJ flat points, 180 gr Hornady XTP-HP, and 200gr Hornady XTP-HP, see pic. I will say I’m still shooting the pistol as a 14rd gun not 15rds. I still can hardly get a 15th round in the mags after leaving them full for a week. And it is still difficult to load a 15rd mag into the gun if the slide is closed.
I was very pleased with the results shooting from a rest at 17 yards, since I was working up a load.
I used Winchester 231 with the 180gr FMJ FP’s. Power Pistol with the 180gr XTP’s. And Unique with the 200gr XTP’s. The Winchester 231 and Unique performed very well, the Power Pistol did ok, see pics.I don’t have a chronograph yet, so I don’t know the velocities. I picked out the best powder and grain amounts from my test for the pics.
Next I’m going to cast some 175gr bullets and powder coat them. I don’t know when I will get to cast them but will test different powders with them also.

Very nice! I really like that optic setup, and IMO that is plenty of cowitness for backup irons...I almost prefer it as they don't stick up so far and should make it easier to find holsters.

I'm curious about this as I've recently seen some issues with this with new 9mm P320s as well. If you chamber a round, then insert a fully loaded mag, have you had any issues with the slide not going back into battery after the first shot? I've run into this a couple of times in recent months, and it appears that there's just too much tension with 17 rounds in the mag for the recoil spring to overcome. The mags in question were factory and marked "Made in Italy". The problem went away when we downloaded them by one.

Thanks for the review and the follow-up. This gun has my interest more than any other new production handgun in recent years.

I have not tried chambering a round and then inserting a full mag on the X-TEN. I have tried inserting a full mag into the pistol with the slide closed and you have to hammer it with the heel of your hand, then it is very difficult to rack the slide. When you do get a round chambered the brass on the case is scuffed and scratched. When there is only 14 rounds everything works perfectly. In my case I don’t think it’s just the spring causing the problem. When the first round you load into the mag gets pushed down to the point to where it’s supposed to drop into the 15th round window, it won’t drop. It’s like that part of the mag is a few thousandths too narrow. Both mags are the same. I even put just a tiny sheen of Ballistol in the mag to see if it would work, but no.
I have a Sig P320C 9mm and have never had any problems fully loading the mag or getting it to close into battery with a full mag +1.
The slide on the X-TEN was cut for the new Romeo2. But I didn’t want to spend $600-$700 on an optic for a pistol that I paid $799 for. So far so good on the Holosun 507.
