I put wood on a Shockwave

honestlouI put wood on a Shockwave
I like the idea of the Shockwave, although I don't think it's a very practical weapon. I have one that I've shot a bit, and I planned on putting a light and/or laser on it. A few months ago I saw online that they made one with wood instead of plastic, and I thought it looked really nice. After a couple of months of searching I managed to get one shipped to my local Academy. When I went to pick it up I was extremely disappointed in how crappy the wood was. Like extremely cheap, plain wood with no grain, and an extremely thin stain painted on. Like the cheapest crappiest wood you can imagine.
So I looked around and found a seller on eBay with actual walnut replacement stocks. $110 and 15 minutes later and here it is:
I still need to find a nice leather strap to attach to the forend.

FredwardSweet! I've seen several of the "combat" models and you're right, the wood is horrible. Yours looks great now.

P220 SmudgeThat's some nice-lookin' walnut. No before picture, but if it looks like the others I've seen, it's not hard to imagine what an improvement it was.

honestlouHere is the “before” photo:
I’m still thinking about setting one up with a pistol brace and light/laser. But I mostly think it’s a really cool looking gun with the wood, and it will serve the purpose of a range toy. And maybe mount it on the wall.
I do need to find a nice piece of leather for a strap, to put on the foregrip-don’t want your hand slipping off. I’m a little concerned about that, as the original has screws into the polymer, and I’m worried about messing up the wood. I’ll have to make sure it’s thick enough in the spot I need, and pre-drill the holes so the wood doesn’t split.

FlyingScotLooks great, found the same ebay seller you did and still thinking about putting on the wood. I did order the Crimson Trace Laser side saddle - for this gun to hit what you are aiming at, think you need this. Once in will post back how it works. Still thinking about the wood, looks great!

monoblokIt does look pretty sweet. But I've got stippling grip tape slathered all over my Shockwave's factory bird's head grip and I do rather prefer it that way. It would seem criminal for me to do the same to such good looking walnut.

KobrenI'm of the same preference for walnut. Commented before re it's inspiration, cut down 12ga used by LE on witness protection details, with attached single point sling under raincoat or overcoat. Intended for close up personal reach out touch you no sighting intended. Also makes for excellent truck/car gun. Probably run reduced recoil 00 buck or slugs. Wont win any points with the skeet guys.

Il CattivoThose things really look great with wood on them.

tsa45Does anyone seen any chronograph testing that’s been done to determine velocities that could be expected using lite (reduced velocity) factory loaded buckshot and slugs in one of these? This thread has really got me thinking. Thanks!

Kobrentsa45 I'd be curious also re testing velocity with reduced recoil ammo with 14" barrel. Estimate practical distance 20 feet or less. Experimented with pistol grip 870 using reduced recoil 00 buck and it was easy to control and reasonably accurate out to 15 yards. My guess more stopping power than any handgun round.

Rolan_KrapsI've got the SB Brace on mine and a Streamlight front handguard replacement. I love it! You DO need a special tool to replace the handguard.
I also got the "Mini-shell" adaptor so I have 8 rounds of 00 buckshot in the magazine!

PorterNThose are such beautiful, funny guns. I definitely want one - and should have grabbed one before they became $800 this year. I love the Wood, too!!

SCfromNYI have one although they have limited value. I did put a sling on mine. I did not see if the wood had an attachment for a sling.
What pissed me off was that the 12 gauge has a laser available but the 20 does not.

Not true - the Crimson Trace Side saddle laser works with 20 gauge and 12 gauge, not 410. They provide a shim, locks it up tight.

$800 bucks for a 12 gauge Shockwave? They were on sale in my area several months ago for close to $300.

casI assume "several" months ago was SEVERAL months go. Shotgun prices went nuts this year.Even the cheapest imported never heard of guns are more than that for several months.
