I recently acquired a Lipsey's NM Flattop Bisley in 41 Magnum and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Between the new Ruger and shooting my old Model 57-5 Mountain Gun this week I got to thinking.

Would there be interest in an L-Frame (exactly like the S&W Model 69) in 41 Remington Magnum?

As S&W is currently producing seven shot L-Frame 357 Magnums, there might be enough steel to make a six shot 41 Magnum?

While I would be happy with the 4.2 -inch barrel, several have expressed in interest in 3- inch and 5-inch barrel options.

For grips I was thinking X-Frame or VZ grips.

Sights would be a simple green fiber optic or a brass/gold bead.

Maybe have the S&W Performance Center do an action/trigger job.

Just an idea.

I am also a fan of the .41, but have no interest in acquiring any more guns at this stage of life. I doubt S&W would do such a thing.

I have no .41 experience but am otherwise a big fan of S&W revolvers, particularly of the N-frame variety.

I have been pondering a foray into the L-frame world (I mean, only decades after their debut, right? LOL).

Given more recent L-frame forays into the .44 caliber world, I’d think your notion could work. As alluded to already, would there be enough market for it for S&W to pursue? It does make me wonder if custom gunsmiths a’la Hamilton Bowen, et.al. might have been approached on something like this.

Over time, I’ve read many good comments about .41, that’s for sure.

Call Lipsey’s and ask them to order 500 copies from S&W or whatever the minimum is to get S&W to do a custom run. There’s probly 500 .41 guys that would buy it

OR

Get the 44 L frame version, and send it off to Bobby Tyler or Ham Bowen or similar and get your checkbook out and wait. A custom 41 cylinder and a new barrel and some choice grips made of a premium material and it would be a nice item.

Here's an alternative - not an easy one, but you have a greater chance of this happening than of Smith making a .41 Mag L-frame...



Model 646 - an L-frame, six-shot in .40 Smith & Wesson. They made this as the regular production (even though it came in a PC case) and there was a PC version with a slab-sided barrel.

Just a thought.

I had come across a stash of 41s that had been marked down as nobody was buying.

Shopped around and ended up with a Desert Eagle.

Might have to get a revolver someday.

I don't know if it work in the L frame, but since Smith has been making L frames for 40-some years and hasn't put the .41 mag in it yet, I think they never will.

I love my Model 69. It's a very nicely put together gun with an incredible trigger. Mines a 2 3/4", and if I'm honest I'd probably buy a 4" 69 in .44 before I'd buy a .41. I've got my bases pretty well covered with 6-shot K-Frame .357s and a 5-shot L-Frame .44.

If you could squeeze six in there instead of five that might make a difference, since I can download .44 to .41 levels if I want to, but can't really spice up .357 that much and still be safe.

I think the .41 Mag is interesting and has its place, but if the capacity, weight, and size of the gun are going to be the same you might as well just have the .44.

I wish I would have kept my Model 58.

A Model 58 has been on my list for a very long time, still surprised on what people are asking for them.

I am enjoying my new Lipsey's NM Ruger Flattop Bisley in SS w/ the 5.5- inch barrel. I'm using my loads of 215 gr. cast SWC with 8.3 gr. of Unique and 200 gr. Remington JHP's with 17.0 gr. of AA #9 in Winchester cases. The groups are pretty respectable at 15 and 25 yards.
I will be changing to a green fiber optic sight blade.

I'm sure that Lipsey's or TALO could move 1000 Model 69 style revolvers in 41 Magnum.

I know I'd get one.

I do have a 4.25" bbl'd Smith M-69 that's my "fishing in black bear country" side arm. At ~39 oz. unloaded, it's quite comfortable in a cross chest 'tanker' type of holster while wading the Smokies trout streams for native brookies. It or a re-issue of the .41 Mag "Mountain Gun" (without the *&&$# infernal lock) would be right up my alley.

But I fear our wishes will fall on deaf ears at S&W or Colt, for that matter, but Lipsey's might have the juice to get it done....Rod

I think the 41 Rem. Mag is a hoot to shoot. I have a buddy with an unfluted cylinder Smith and Wesson with a full lug barrel (~7") that is an absolute tack driver and has a sweet factory trigger. I've been looking for one or a flat sided model (drool) for some time, but they fetch a premium price.

It would be doubtful, how well does their 610 sell?
