I found a nice P2229r Elite the other day. I had an older P229 .40 years ago and have missed it ever since I was stupid enough to sell it to a friend. This one was $499 and I thought for that price it's worth a try. It came with Hogue rubber grips which I may replace, and the thin trigger shoe. I find the thin shoe to be uncomfortable, so I replaced it with a standard trigger. Beyond that, it's like new. I'm hoping to get to the range soon and proof her out. The best defense is a good offense, and I'm really offensive.

Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best |
Nice! I rekindled my love for the P229 this year when I stumbled into a 9mm SAS model at the LGS. It's lighter and trimmer than my old .40 duty gun that I retired back in 2017, and has replaced my P220 compact as my off-duty carry piece. I even like it better than my P228, which is probably a little blasphemous to say, lol.

Congrats and nice find. I also prefer the regular/full size trigger, as the slim one pinches my finger when I shoot it. I might be in the minority but I also really like the beaver tail on the Elite models. I can get a slightly higher grip with them compared to the standard model. The E2 grip on it is also another plus in my book.

I got her out to punch some holes in the hillside yesterday. Just like the P229 .40 I had in the past, this gun was dead on at 10 yards from the first shot. Double action or single, it made no difference, the bullets impacted where the sights dictated. Absolutely could not be happier, in fact I may even leave the Hogue grips in place for now. Just a wonderful shooter. The best defense is a good offense, and I'm really offensive.

The P229 and .40 are indeed well-matched to one another. Relatively speaking, it's really a soft shooter in the caliber. My P229/40 is one of my favorite guns in any caliber. -MG
