So.... My last range session has proved beyond doubt that my ancient eyes can no longer see the sights as well as I used to. I have been considering the P320RX Compact for a while now and about 95% convinced to pick one up. I have found a couple of holster I like so that has been solved. Questions: 1- Reliability. Has anyone been using one long term? Round count? 2- Battery life. For those of you who EDC the RX, what has been your battery life? Thanks in advance! The RX is the bomb. I resisted the RDS for the longest of time. My vision is near perfect still but I had some problems getting the right alignment on some of the Glocks with RMRs on them. I bought a 226 with a RX on it and have had zero issues with battery life or reliability. I’ve got a few thousand throw the gun. One thing I will say is that out to 10 I am really not any faster. Beyond that I am much faster and more accurate. I have noticed that because of the dot, I have to be cleaner on the draw. I only thought that my draw was clean but the minor iron sight alignment errors I could cheat and get away with it. With the dot, those small errors reward me with not being able to find the dot. So, to say that my alignment on the draw has gotten even cleaner is probably an understatement. At 25, I look like a rock star. I can shoot at the same pace to the head that I could get away with to the body with irons.

We'll see, because I've got one on the way. sighting with the red dot quickly sounds like the one issue that will have to be resolved. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

I have two and really like them also. I carry one and shoot the other in competition. I have maybe four thousand rounds total through them with no issues. Battery life, however, has been around four months or so, with constant use on high setting. "Ride to the sound of the big guns."

Speaking of the battery, would it be practical to remove the battery if checking the gun when taking a flight? Would the handling of the checked bag cause the RX to come on and off? My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

Told cops where to go for over 29 years… |
Romeo one, if left on will go to “sleep” without movement, but “wake up” when it sense a certain level of movement (not sure what the threshold is). It cans be turned completely off by pressing and holding one of the buttons (same as to turn it on). For travel, I would just turn off and not worry about removing battery. I'm an old guy with eyes so bad that Major League Baseball keeps asking me to become an umpire, so I switched to Red Dot in March and have over 7,000 rounds thru my Romeo 1. I have mine mounted on a Sig P320FS. Within 15 yards, I don't notice any accuracy difference. Past 15 yards is where the Romeo 1 shines. Like Jerry, If my draw is off then I'm fishing for the dot. With the Dot, you know exactly where that bullet is going which makes it far easier to self-diagnose your problem whether that be grip, stance, trigger press etc.... I used to shoot left, now my groups are centered. The Dot is fantastic at getting your fundamentals all in alignment. I was concerned about durability too. I was shooting in one of Jerry's classes a few weeks ago and noticed what I thought was a hairline crack in my Romeo 1. Turned out it was dust mixed with some moisture - whew! When cleaning your pistol use masking tape to enclose your Red Dot so that no oil or solvents can penetrate through to the glass on your optic. I failed to do this my first time and what a chore cleaning that mess off my optic was! My second time I used electrical tape to enclose my optic - another Fail on my part because the optic had sticky adhesive all over it which was even harder to clean off than the gun oil was. I clean my Dot with a (ammonia free) spray cleaner and soft cotton gun cleaning patches. I use a Q-Tip to clean around the edges of my Romeo 1. The one negative about the Romeo 1 is that it does eat batteries. I'm told by the guys who carry EDC with Romeo 1's that they change batteries every 45 days. Me, I only use mine on the range so I put extra batteries in my range bag. One other advantage to the Dot is, it makes your fundamentals of draw, grip, stance and trigger press much better. When you shoot irons you should notice an increase in accuracy. My EDC is irons and I'm better with them now which I attribute to all my time on the Dot. The only negatives I've seen so far is that in heavy driving rain that Dot blooms such that you can't see the target. And, when shooting from bright sunlight onto a target covered in shade, you'll have to adjust your Dot's intensity down, otherwise the Dot blooms and you literally can't see your target. Also, I was shooting in a blizzard in early April and didn't keep my Dot covered in my OWB holster so the glass filled up with snow. To clear that I just pointed my 320 to the sky and shook the gun hard up and down a few times. So in heavy rain and blizzards you'll have to carry a soft cloth with you to keep the optic clear but otherwise the Dot beats irons hands down. Once you switch to the Dot, you won't go back.

I'm transitioning to red dot sights. Three of my five pistols have red dot sights. My P365 doesn't because I haven't located a place where I can get it milled and mount a Shield RMSc on it. (For a hundred dollars) The fifth one, a Ruger LC9s Pro will likely stay normal. It resides very handy to my recliner. I'm leaving the Romeo 1 on all the time. Its mostly my bedside pistol until our cool winters come along then it'll be packed when in Tucson or driving up to Phoenix. My Shield sights are designed to be on constantly. (No Off or On buttons. No buttons of any kind) Batteries in Shield RMS or RMSc last two to three years and likely four years. Just zero them. The dot adjusts instantly on its own depending on the atmosphere. Since my Romeo 1 turns off and on depending on motion I'm seeing how long the battery will last. Been on several months so far. Like the one poster said, where that dot is is where the bullet hits. I've become addicted. Stay safe Poli Viejo
