Has anyone tried putting different grips on your 40th anniversary p226? I can’t get any of the factory plastic grips or my hogue g10 grips to fit it. There is a huge gap on the bottom of all of the grips I try. I’m guessing sig changed the grip frame for reasons. Thank you.

I am surprised to hear that Hogue G10 (or, really, even factory) grips didn’t work since it’s fitted with Hogue aluminums.

I’d pondered changing mine to G10s but have stuck with the aluminums thus far. Will be interested to hear the membership’s comments.

I carry and shoot my 40th Anniversary P226 regularly - it’s become a favorite.

There has been a modification to the 226 grip frame, so current/recent models like the 40th and the current 226 Elite have a different profile. A little more metal towards the back unlike where it stops halfway on the older grip frame. That’s why your grips are splaying out at the bottom.

Far left is a MK-25 that represents the older style, 40th Anniversary in the middle, Elite with E2 grips on the right.

That’s exactly what I realized. I modified a set of g10 grips to fit. I was hoping to run a set of tan plastic, factory grips but reliving the mag well area on the plastic grips didn’t solve the problem. The gap was then at the middle of the back of the grips. I’ll keep trying different grips.

Best of luck sir - obviously newer grips should fit better.

Cheers

Why did Sig do that? I hate to say they are no longer following continuity, first with the P229 and now this. The p229 I had years ago cost me a good amount due to the inability to use P229-1 mags and other grips.
