Friends, I just got my 220st back from GRAYGUNS, where they installed the improved extractor (this handgun previously had Bruce's action enhancement package done). I plan to use this handgun primarily for protection from hogs and other varmints while hiking, fishing, etc. I would appreciate your input as to which magazines perform the best (and longest), and also good choices for a leather holster. Can't help you with holster, but for mag, get the factory stainless 8-rounder, from >> Greg Cote <<. He's a member here. The >> 10-rounder << is also available for the same price. Q

Congrats on the P-220ST. Factory mags with the dimple, and you will be good to go. The only leather holsters I have for My P-220's are Galco Fletch. I like them, but given your application, I may consider a chest type holster. What loads are you planning to carry? Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

For here in east Texas, I will be using Federal standard velocity FMJ ammo. For grizzly country, I will be using my 10mm with Underwood 200 grain hard cast ammo. If I were using my 220ST, I would likely use Underwood +P 255 grain hard cast. I wonder.....with proper springs, etc., would the 220ST hold up to very infrequent use of 45 Super ammo?

I love leather holsters but If I was going to carry in rugged outdoor areas I would get this. Durable, accessable and secure. https://gunfightersinc.com/ken...1EAAYASAAEgKF6_D_BwE

I like the way you think! I am not a SME, but I'd guess that it could hold up OK, if used sparingly, for a while, I guess... I doubt if Sig would ever officially give the OK to trying it. I'm not gonna try it with mine. As far as holsters for your needs I'd say a chest or shoulder holster. If that doesn't suit you, there is a plethora of leather holster makers out there now. My favorite go to is the Kramer Vertical Scabbard in horsehide. Just my preference, I'll leave it to others to offer more choices. China is Asshoe

What’s the deal with the dimple ? Better reliability ?

As for magazines, the factory stainless 8 round ones have served me well since procuring my 220ST in 2006. As far as leather holsters, the Milt Sparks VM2 has served me well (only carried for a short time after switching to a P225 for weight/comfort). It's an IWB, so probably not ideal for your purposes.

Yes, the dimple mags are supposed to be more reliable. Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

I would call Bruce at Gray Guns and ask him for recommendations on the + P ammo He has a lot of experience with the 220 package, he would also have suggestions on the springs to start with. I had Bruce install the improved extractor on one of my 220’s and it works well, I like the factory 8 rd stainless mags ,for my Sigs I always had the best performance from the factory mags. My go to holster for the 220 is a custom job by Prezine holster of Florida , kydex on the outside , leather inside, I do like a previous suggestion of the chest rig, I was considering one of those next. I appreciate everyone's help. I have decided not to shoot anything other than standard pressure loads. As far as the holster, I think I will go with the chest rig if I can find one made for the 220ST.

If you decide to get a leather rig for wearing that 220 in style, check out Privateer Leather. I have one of their Highwayman models. It is very nicely built.
