Looks like I just found my Christmas present from me to me, 1972 Hi-Power. It’ll look good with my Hi-Power Practical and my SA-35.

I really shouldn’t, literally just paid my CC off this morning an hour off before I got the text from a coworker.

Common sense goes out the window, it’s the season they say.

I recently came into a new in box Browning Hi Power. All I know is that it's Belgian made but I don't know the year. I probably won't ever shoot this one but I'd love to find a shooter.

They ain't getting any cheaper. Get it now and forget the guilt.

I honestly never really cared for them as shooters, but I do love the way they look and I respect their pedigree.

My BHP Practical is the most beautiful pistol in my accumulation, I mean collection.

I feel the same way about my BHP Practical as well! I remember finding it used in a local gun shop many years ago. I wasn't looking to buy a High Power (I was looking at 1911's that day), but after handling it and with the two tone finish (it looks like a companion to my two-toned SIG TTT 1911), I really could not help myself and it followed me home. It may have been one of my best gun shop finds ever (along with finding an H&K P7 PSP around the same time in the same gun shop).

I miss the days of the late 90s/early 2000s when guns, even collectible ones, were so much cheaper. Some I bought myself during that time were a Beretta 86 for $350, a Browning .22 autoloading rifle for $500, and a Ruger No. 1 for $575. One I lost out on because I was indecisive was a Savage 99, caliber .300 Savage, for $375. Ammo, too. 9mm Luger range ammo was less than a ten-spot a box, .45 ACP just over that.

Bought one in the early 70's for about 100.00 new in black zippered pouch. Adjustable sights was 20.00 more. I could not hit anything with it but then again new to shooting. Let my friend try it who was a very good shot and he was able to get 3 shots almost in the bullseye. Sold it in the early 80's to the same guy.

Congrats. I have a Centennial Model, presentation box and all. Yes, I shoot it.

I had one a long time ago, had some work done to it... damn great gun! Sententamentl value as well.
I sold it like a dumbass under the condition of "If you want to get rid of it, call me first!"
It didn't turn out like that. The ONLY gun I regret selling!

Over the years, I've acquired 3.
And older "T" series, a Mk II and a great MK III two-tone.

I'm seriously considering on sending the MKII out for some custom work, and turning it into my carry piece when I retire.

I got them for -/+ $500 a piece. Now? I think the cheapest I've seen is $700ish.
I missed the boat on the H&K P-7's: I always thought that "tomorrow" would come and there would be a new run of them. Nope... Try and find one of those puppies under $1000! When it comes to the BHP- I'm not making that mistake again.

Brownings especially Belgian ones are not real commonly seen around here, last couple the store has had on consignment have been Portuguese production. While nice they didn’t have the mystique of the Belgian ones to me.

There have been a lot of the Israeli service FN’s but those have been pretty cosmetically beat. A couple of years ago Cabela’s in Dundee had a pair of them in the showcase. Again cosmetically challenged and priced at $1100 or so each, same quality of the ones that about eight years ago were $400 guns in this area.

I paid less than that for my NIB 1992 Practical two years ago.

Thanks for this thread. I have a German WW2 1943 Hi Power. It is a nice pistol. I just bought one from Cabelas made the year my only son was born, 1986.
Cabelas had a very nice condition one that was 10% off, plus 5% military, and 10% for using their Visa.

Congrats on your HP purchase. They are great guns and a ton of fun to own/shoot. I wouldn't sweat the purchase. Money comes and goes but classic firearms are priceless!

I bought a used MKIII last year and sent it to Novak's for a workover. It was something I wanted for the last 20 years and never seemed to make happen. It was well worth the wait and the expense.

Now I just need to find a pristine HP practical to go with it...

The Practical I bought two years ago is NIB and never fired. Sad back story, previous owner was in the throes of Alzheimer’s and had his sister sell off his collection to fund his long term care.

I put off a trip to Novaks for too long. I sent this old c-series in a couple years back and it was well worth it!
