I took my new P365 to the range yesterday (BOD 07/09/18-a Monday gun). I took along 200 rounds (100 rounds of Federal 124 gr HST +P and 100 rounds of 124 gr Federal American Eagle) and three magazines (All 10 rounders, one flush fit and two finger extension). All rounds fired from 15 yards. I was pressed for time, so it was a quick range session with no pics. The pistol was cleaned prior and lubed with Lucas oil (first time using this product). Initial impressions: A quick visual comparison and it seems to be about the same size as my PM9. No exact measurements taken, but its close enough. It feels really good in the hand and I really like the X-ray sights. The mag release is at an odd angle and I really have to shift the pistol in my hand to drop the mag. Not a big deal, but definitely something to get used to. The trigger feels spongy. I didn't get my trigger pull scale out, so I won't guess at a pull weight. It was manageable with a reasonable reset (I know, really informative..NOT). I started off the shooting session with the HST and it was very controllable. All 100 rounds went into a group that I could cover with my hand. The sights, for me, seemed to prefer a center hold rather than the combat sight picture (sight picture #2 rather than #3 in the images usually posted referencing sight picture). In the very first magazine at about the fourth or fifth round, I pulled the trigger and it felt like the striker released, but no bang. I pulled the slide back slightly to re-cock the striker, pulled the trigger and fired the round. Again, I was in a hurry so while I should have ejected the round and checked the primer, I didn't. After that, I had no more failures to fire. Not sure if it was ammo or pistol related, but since it did not happen again, I attributed it to the ammo. I had two failures to lock back on an empty magazine. The first one was me, as I had shifted my grip and my thumb was pushing against the slide release. The second the slide came back and felt like it was going to grab, but then shot forward. It was while using the American Eagle ammo, so it's possible the round just didn't have enough oomph to get the slide back to the point where the slide lock could engage. The empty did eject though. I don't consider this a big deal as it ran fine with the HST, which is my carry load. No other issues of any kind presented during the firing. After shooting, I took it apart to clean it. There were no marks on the finish to indicate it was fired (not that I would expect much of anything after only 200 rounds, but that was one of the complaints I had read about). There were marks on the back of one of the magazines (one of the finger rest mags). All three mags had a wear strip horizontally on the front at the very top. In cleaning the magazines, I noticed that there was what appeared to be a yellow grease/preservative on the magazine springs, and in one mag there was a small ball of it attached to the spring. I checked the fired cases and yes, the drag mark was there, but not that noticeable. Interestingly enough, I picked up some spent Federal HST .40 cases that had been fired from a full size S&W M&P. The drag mark on the primer was identical as to that made by the P365. The pistol will replace my PPS M2 as my summer carry piece. It may see carry duty through winter, but I usually switch over to my PPQ for that. Overall, I'm pleased with the pistol. Cheers!

Great review. Wish my first range trip had been as good. Manufacture date of 07/18. 200 rounds fired; 150 rounds of 115 grain FMJ (50 each American Eagle, PMC Bronze and Sellier & Bellot) and 50 rounds of Speer 124 grain +P GDHP. With American Eagle I experienced premature lock back with one round still in the 10 round pinkie extended magazine. PMC Bronze failed to lock back the flush fit 10 round magazine on one occasion. Sellier & Bellot and Speer GDHP each had two premature lock backs with one round still in the 10 round flush fit magazine. Love the pistol. Great trigger, awesome sights, accuracy second to none. Let's see what the future holds. This message has been edited. Last edited by: MSER,

Sorry to hear of your issues. My first two range sessions with the P365 have been flawless. Couple of hundred rounds each time, generic range ammo mostly with some Gold Dot HPs mixed in to check with carry ammo. I've done most of the shooting, but two friends have also gotten some time in. No issues with any of our shots. Gun fits my hand and even my pocket holster (bought for the Kahr PM5) It's a little heavier than the Kahr (with almost twice the rounds, it'd have to be) but manageable. I have not officially 'sighted it in' as yet, but for me, it also felt like it shot low both range trips. Maybe given the night sights they just set these up for use of Sight Image 3? I use Sight Image 2 for all my firearms, so that might explain impacts lower than I expect. In any event, personally I'm wildly happy with this beastie. When I do finally zero it in, if it still shoots low I may investigate getting different sights.

Sight image 3 is how my 365 shoots also. This is also true for my 226 Navy.

Check your strong hand thumb position on your next range trip (assuming you are a right-handed shooter). The one premature lockback I had was during my first range session. I determined it was because my thumb was under the lever and I bumped it up during recoil. I moved my thumb to the base of my weak hand thumb and haven't had it happen again in ~1k rounds. <><><><><><><><><><><><><> "I drank what?" - Socrates

Sight image #2 is what my pistol is sighted in for. I tried using sight image #3, as all my other Sig’s use, but found it to hit a bit high at 15 yards. I hope from here on out it’s smooth sailing for your P365, MSER.

nice review. hope you will update this thread on your next range visit. i'd like to know if you continue to have issues or if it's just a little break-in anomaly as i see a 365 in my future. Risk the consequences of honesty...

Nope. Left handed shooter here. That's why I'm at a loss to easily explain the malfunctions. All in all, a great pistol. Just a little disappointing to have this experience.
