P series pistols - which mags to buy?
My new P226r came with mags stamped Sig-Sauer 9mm and nothing else. Looks like online there are Mec-Gars, Italian made and anti-friction coating versions with different price points.

I need to stock up on 10 to 15 mags and want to buy the most reliable. I may want some 18 round mags as well.

What do you guys recommend I buy? Cost isn't a factor, just want to make sure that they are dead nuts reliable.

Thanks!

Mec-Gars. All i've bought since my first P-series in 1996. P229 and P226. Well made, no failures...pure quality at reasonable prices.

They also provide Sig with OEM mags. With OEM they say "Made in Italy" as well.

Afer this post, you'll probably see a lot of echos.

Checkmate or Pro-Mag.

Just kidding. Mec-Gar are the only mags you should use. That was less funny than a dad joke. I’m sorry.

You can't go wrong with Checkmate or MecGar.

Mecgar's are usually a lot cheaper and they are quality stuff.

I know a lot of folks will bad-mouth the Checkmate(made in USA)magazines due to past problems with magazines supplied to the military for the Beretta M9, but my experience with Checkmate mags for Sig has been 100% positive in several thousand rounds in several different guns.

If given a choice, I will take the Mec-Gar mags for the 226 because I like the 18 rd version, but if Checkmate were the only ones available, or were cheaper, I would not lose any sleep worrying about the difference.

Never had a problem with either Mec-Gar or Checkmate and I have both.I do believe the finish on the Mec-Gar magazine is more durable though.

I haven't really compared the finishes, but the Mec-Gar mags have also been cheaper than the factory Checkmate mags in my experience. I haven't bought any new ones in a while though.
