Looking for a .22 LR plinking pistol and was unable to find any thoughts, advice or opinions regarding the P322.
Anybody ?

I really like mine. It’s accurate and reliable. Comes with two 20 round magazines. Reasonably priced. It’s my most fun gun to shoot.

I go to a weekly tactical fun shoot and though a lot of other participants have used these, their (at least the first generation versions) pistols seem to very problematic as to reliability. Several of these shooters have had to send their pistols back to SIG for repair and haven't been happy with the cooperation/results.

The one I bought when it first came out was a jam-o-matic. The one I bought last year runs great!

My understanding is that the magazines are the weak link. They have to be loaded one round at a time while ensuring that they stay aligned in the magazine. They also cannot be loaded too long prior to use otherwise they will bulge.

The gun is great and accurate, it's just that some mags develop issues.

My magazines developed jams where multiple brands of ammo failed to make it up to the feed lips. Sig Customer Support was great and replaced the mags very quickly and without a fuss. I will test the replacement mags next week .

It seems the older versions seem to have feed issues. But wondered Is this issue prone to 10 round mags, 20 round or both ?

I don’t think the mags were the problem with mine. I knew how to load them, and loaded them correctly per their instructions, one round at a time. Also didn’t leave them loaded. That was Sig blaming people for some fault with their guns. Like many 1st gen products, they quietly fixed the issue on later releases without acknowledging a problem.

That said, there are a number of good choices for .22 pistols these days, including the latest Taurus TX22s and the S&W M&P 22x.

I have a P220 in .45 and also a 10 MM Legion, and really like both of them. So I figured on looking into a P322 as a plinker.

Most manufactures are this way, regardless of their product , frustrating !

Mine was a first generation. Problems with magazines. After my Mosquito and my Ruger P22 (broken firing pin) I gave up on .22 semi-autos. I have a Ruger revolver for plinking,

I bought mine 2-years ago and started having problems about 6-months ago with the 20-round magazines, that's the only kind I have. The mags had previously worked flawlessly but started jamming with ammo out of the same box. I made sure that they were clean and loaded them according to Sig's instructions.

I look forward to having positive results and if so, will use it to shoot action steel matches,

Mine was definitely the magazines. After firing a few rounds off, the rounds would get stuck in the magazine, it wasn't an issue with failure to feed because the bullet never made it up to the top of the magazine.

I hear good things about the Taurus.

Mine is always the magazine, if you get it loaded just right it’ll work fine. Any round that’s slightly off in the mag will jam.

SR22 on the other hand never fails to work. Any ammo, suppressed or not.

Mine has light strikes with all ammo types and doesn’t feed particularly reliably. I’m sorry I bought it. YMMV

The one I shot on Sig Show and Tell day and the range's rental gun were fine, reliable and as accurate as I could hold their light weight and squishy trigger.
It won't replace my S&W Plastic M&P .22 Compact which only olds 10 but feeds, fires, and functions reliably.

Does anyone make aftermarket mags that are reliable ?

I have one really like it. Runs well suppressed. I also have a FN502 and like it a little better.
Can’t go wrong with the Sig.

I got one on a lark because it was dirt cheap. It was $200 with 5 magazines. I threw on a Romeo Zero Elite that I got for $60 used. After checking out Youtube, I replaced the rubber trigger shoe with an Armory Craft one.

It's one of my favorite range toy. 20 rounds with a suppressor on it. Makes me giggle shooting it at the range. It runs like a top. Only malfunction were with cheap bulk .22 ammo. With CCi, it runs like a singer sewing machine.

To follow up, I used two of the new replacement magazines this week and they worked perfectly.

I modified one of the original magazines to see if I could get it to work reliably. It looked like the follower could tilt slightly forward, allowing the cartridge's nose to jam into the front wall of the mag. So, I drilled a tiny hole and added a very small screw to act as a spacer in the front edge of the follower. I had to file and stone it so that the follower would fit and slide smoothly inside the mag body.

I tested it on the bench and it looked like the bullet's nose still wanted to dip but maybe less forcefully. So I tried replacing the mag spring with a 7lb 1911 recoil spring and it was stronger and a little long but didn't fix the issue. I removed it and replaced the factory spring.

So, I got to thinking what would cause the mags that were once 100% reliable to start jamming and the only answer that I came up with was that the spring must have gotten weaker over time.

So I then added a very small spacer under the spring and it appears to function more smoothly on the bench. I will test it out at the range and give an update.
