My dad gave me a browning high power that he “bought” from me when I was going thru my divorce in 96.

It’s immaculate except for a small spot of rust on the bottom of the frame because he left it in a drawer.

I don’t like the tall target sights and was wondering if a set of Novaks is the way to go with a fiber front sight like my 1911s or should I just seek out a set of standard sights? (Has anyone dealt with them? Do i just purchase the sights and cut and the. Send in the slide)

My Birthday is coming up and Mrs. MIke has been pestering me about a gift to me.

I wouldn't do fiber optic anything.

What is the vintage of the pistol? If it's a pre-MkIII, the slide is not dovetailed for the front sight. IIRC, all the HPs with the huge adjustable rear sight have a staked front sight.

Here's a MkIIIS from 1990

I bought it in 94 or 95. The front sight is dovetailed. Lemme go get it and take a pic

I put the pachmeyers on it a few months ago-feels better in my hand.

BTW those sights are kinda what I want, or Novaks because I have them on 2 1911s. But standard sights look like what should be on them

245NZ is a Sport Model manufactured in 1991. MKIIIS, and should be a forged frame. Look on the bottom of the grip, behind the magazine well. If this area is smooth (not grooved), it's a forged frame. I think the cast frames started in 1993 or 1994.

Those look like aftermarket sights. If you can find the standard sights like you see on my pistol, all you need is a sight pusher that fits the HP slide.

Or, a good set of night sights, like Trijicons. https://www.trijicon.com/products/details/br02

Bought it at Frisco’s Rod and Gun from Bryan Perry ( the owner now) back in the 90s. I had to get 3 locals sign an affidavit that I was a good person to get a NC Pistol Purchase Permit from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office at the time. (Those have been discontinued since then)

Here’s the box and bottom of the gun

I have a brass punch and an 4oz hammer. Bet I could get some standard sights right in there

Yes, but factory installed. Notice the box label indicates adjustable sights. Apparently, Browning went to these sights and stopped using original configuration sights which appear on the first Sport models introduced in 1971- the so-called "beer can" rear sight, which, IIRC, has dovetail dimensions different than the fixed rear sight of High Powers of the same period.

That's not the case for Mike's pistol, which should fit the standard fixed rear sight just fine.

"Suppressor-height" sights before they were cool.

I can see why you don't like them. The rear looks like a good way to slice your hand up.

Sights came in, they look just like Para’s.

Apparently the factory uses a giant press. I had to cut the front sight down thru the top into the dovetail before I could get it out.

New front went in pretty easy with a brass punch and 4oz hammer.

The rear sight needed a 2lb hammer and I used the hammer Shoo-boy karma’s me a few years ago to act as the punch and move it. Then reverse for the new rear.

It’s centered, I put down blue tape on the slide at both locations and marked them.

It’s been freezing here with a wind to bring us to the OMFG ITS COLD out, I’ll wait till next week to go try it out.

But I love the looks already.
