MNSIGS&W M&P optics ready compact
Has anyone tried one of the new models with the flat trigger? I have a couple of 2.0 versions with the standard hinged trigger. I don't hate them, but wondering if the flat trigger is really much of an improvement or just cosmetic. None of the local shops has one, so I'll be ordering. I plan to get an optics ready M&P anyway, so it's just a matter of which version to select.
Thanks

Roughneck6I have one with the flat trigger, absolutely 100% improvement.

EdmondCan't wait to see the responses to this. I was looking at this pistol as well. Not sure if I want to carry a 1911 around all summer.

Jimmo952The way a person's finger interfaces with the trigger is a personal thing.
Flat triggers work very well for some people. For others not so much.
You won't know which category you are in until you shoot one, or at least fondle one.

That's the problem. I'm familiar with the curved, but no opportunity to try the flat. I have smaller hands, so the a shorter trigger reach is better. I'm thinking the curved might be the way to go.
Holosun coming out with the direct mount version of the SCS for the M&P is a big incentive. It would allow me to ditch the suppressor sights and mount it nice and low like my G19/SCS combo.

I guess I'd ask: "improvement over what?" A 1.0 with curved, or 2.0 with curved? Also, if it's a CORE or Performance Center model, that's a different deal entirely.

CrossTriggers are such a subjective thing despite what online personalities say. Some like a soft rolling break, others like light and crisp, while others yet prefer heavier with no pre-travel, curved, flat, hybrid, etc.
I have owned a few 1.0 M&Ps that I sold off and currently have a few full-size and a couple compact 2.0s. All of the ones that came with curved triggers have been upgraded to Apex aluminum Duty/Carry triggers. All of the ones that came with the new “flat” trigger still have the stock trigger and some polishing of the striker block.
I’m not saying the S&W flat trigger is as good as the Apex, but I’m not inclined to upgrade the new triggers as I was the old curved ones. The striker block can still be hit/miss with regard to grittiness on trigger take-up. My latest full-size 2.0 I bought during this rebate period and it is better than all of the previous factory M&P triggers I’ve felt, including the Performance Center model. This one will also remain stock.
S&W makes running changes to the M&P line so you can’t go off other people’s recommendations. Different SKUs have the same external appearance but can have different striker block (domed vs angled), different sear designs (crisp vs rolling break), trigger and/or sear springs (MA requirement), striker sear angle, etc. It’s better if you’re able to dry fire the actual pistol you’re about to buy or it’ll be like playing lottery.

patwI have a few varieties of the M&P guns and Shields but I really like the Plus trigger out of all of them on my Shield. It is quite nice and very smooth. I have gone back and forth with my decision to switch to the S&W guns, instead of Glock or FN-(although I still have a G42 and my 509T), for my carry and home defense needs. The Shield fits my hand better and the capacity can't be beat, as the Shield Plus' frame is about the same size as the standard Shield frame. I wish S&W would offer the Plus trigger for the earlier versions of the 2.0 guns I have. I would switch them all over.

Also keep in mind that the new S&W trigger isn't really "flat". I think it's a massive improvement over the hinged triggers, and I think we'll start to see that curved-flat style on more striker fired guns in the future.
