I'll have to disagree with this. I shoot a lot of P320, a P245, and revolvers. Typically, my first round DA shot with the P245 is as accurate if not more accurate than the follow-up SA shots. I primarily shoot my revolvers in DA, and that doesn't seem to have hurt me when shooting the light trigger of the P320 at all, nor vice-versa. Maybe it's because I train for that heavy pull, and that translates back to the lighter triggers just fine, as opposed to the other way around. But I do spend a lot of time on all three platforms, and haven't observed a negative effect switching between them. The issue being proper fundamentals...if you're adhering to them the weight and length of the trigger pull shouldn't matter (unless you're short-stroking the reset, or it's mechanically so abysmal that it overcomes your muscles' ability to draw it smoothly to the rear).

I think there are levels to shooting.

Yes, with proper application of fundamentals a person can shoot just about any gun. But...

If you want to shoot your absolute best, pick a platform and train with it almost exclusively. Become one with the gun.

See, I know this is true, but I don't like it. I want to enjoy all sorts of different platforms and such, as I'm always looking for the next best thing or an improvement over whatever it is I'm currently using.

But again, I know if I just purchased a Glock 19 and made it my one and only, I'd probably be a better shooter, but I wouldn't have nearly the level of enjoyment as I do experiencing different platforms.

Good post. I think that there are several different levels to this.

A serious warrior is going to be a threat with any number of different weapons. Serious slugs are going to be limited no matter what weapon they choose.

The best of weapons make the very good even better, the very best weapons won't help the unskilled as much as obtaining skill.

Right now we are blessed with so many excellent platforms that operator skill is the most important thing. The difference between shooters is greater than the difference between weapons.

Just a few points........

I have watched 3 dozen or so youtube shooting match vids ,

some are very impressive,

but I wonder on a regular basis that they need a bonus round at the end.

where the contestant draws a number from a hat to see which gun he has to shoot in the bonus round.

maybe he/she gets a Sig, maybe a glock , maybe they get a Ruger 1911 , heck might get a Springfield XD.
Maybe its a 9mm, maybe a .38 super maybe a .45 acp.

now there is some kind of match to watch

The show "Top Shot" on the History Channel used to do stuff like that, and it was indeed fun to watch. I wish they'd bring it back.
