Yeah, Ian bobbled a few things in this video.
It doesn't disassemble like a P226, which uses the typical Sig rotating takedown lever.
It's not a polymer P226, it's closer in size to a polymer P228/P229, especially with the uncommon compact flush-fit magazine baseplate installed.
He points out the large internal extractor on the 2009, but then he doesn't point out the changes to the extractor, with his 2022 shown having the later smaller external extractor. They changed partway through 2022 production.
And his surplus SP2022 doesn't have a standard 1913 Picatinny rail as he claimed. It has the scalloped/rounded Sig rail like the P226R/P229R, which is mostly compatible with 1913 accessories but not always. Towards the tail end of 2022 production there were US-made SP2022s that had true standard 1913 Picatinny rails. (But these later true 1913 SP2022s won't work with many of the 2022 holsters on the market, because the available gun molds for the 2022 have the earlier scalloped Sig rail.)

ArtieSI have 3 of them and they are among my favorites. Two 9mm and one .40. Balanced, accurate, soft shooting, and reliable.
They are often available for between $400 and $450 and they can’t be beat.

stray dogI have a 9mm 2022 I bought in 2010, I think. It came with the small grip and the short reach trigger, which I switched for the medium grip and standard trigger.
With 10k rounds through it the only problems ever has been ammo induced (looking at you, Winchester bulk packs).
It still makes trips to the range with me and resides as my bedside gun with a TLR7.

bronicabillI have a SP2022 in .40 cal that I love. It fits my hand way better than my P226, and I've thought several times about selling the 226 and getting another 2022 in 9mm to replace it. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact it's a bit harder to disassemble/reassemble than the classic P-series SIGs are.

MuddflapIn 2013, I was lucky enough to pick up a 2022 with a Swiss frame.
I don’t know how many were made, but I’m not much of a rail fan, and the rail doesn’t show much on the Swiss frame. I carried it for several years. It’s a good shooter.

P220 SmudgeMuddflap, that's an SP2009, not an SP2022. Oh, now there's a picture of the left side. Weird. Unless you bought it new that way, I would guess it's a mix master.
I looked at an SP2022 today at a shop. It's not in amazing condition, but they want $315 for it with two magazines. I have always said I'd buy one of these things, and I may yet. I dunno what the hell I'm gonna do with it, though. I have a West German 226 I also never shoot that just hangs around in the safe.
I'm going back in the morning and either coming home with that 2022 or a Gen 5 19. The latter would become my carry piece, the former would be something I'd be buying just to have, I think.

No, I bought it brand new. Still have the box.

RogueJSKThere was a small run of SP2022s produced ca. 2012/2013 using leftover Swiss-made SP2009 frames.
(The SF in the product code is for "Swiss Frame".)
So you're both right.

It's a FrankenSig, but a factory one.

P220 SmudgeYeah, not the first time Sig has thrown together oddball configs with leftover parts. Cool find!

stray dogI remember at the time I bought mine they were very popular here in Cali. People were reporting them coming in various configurations: internal or external extractor, short reach or standard trigger, lci or not. Generally, I think they were all coming with the small grip installed and the medium grip in the box.

Guess I’m learning things today. I didn’t realize the SF stood for Swiss frame. Also I just noticed, right under that, is NON RAILED FRA, which I assume means Frame.

King of Useless KnowledgeI regret selling / trading my old SP2009 with slide mounted safety. YEARS ago I traded it with part of a deal for a Ford Ranger...Not my finest moment. Ive thought of picking up another Sig Pro in 9mm always shot better than any other polymer gun I've owned
