P320 AXG in .357 SIG -- anybody got one?
I currently have three P320s: two X-Compacts (one in a Wilson grip module and one in a SIG grip module) and a Carry in an AXG aluminum grip frame. They are all 9mm. I've been toying with the idea of getting a .357 SIG exchange kit and throwing in on the AXG frame.

My first question is whether it's worth it, given the expense of the kit and the higher price of the ammo. Is it that much better than 9mm +P? It probably wouldn't be a carry gun for me -- more likely I'd use it at the range to try some long-distance shooting, like 100 yards, where a flat-shooting round would be very helpful.

Second, I'd like to hear about anybody who has hands-on experience with .357 SIG in an AXG frame. How's the felt recoil, muzzle flip, etc? I'm guess the heavier frame would mitigate some of that, but how much?

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear everyone's opinions and experiences.

I can't really help other than bump this thread.

I'm a 357 Sig person but for different reasons... ultimately it in theory is all about stopping a threat... and from all I can garner, and yes it is from the internet and we know what that means, the 357 sig round was designed and is superior to 9mm. I know there are a lot of folks out there that will claim and even show documentation that 9mm is good enough.,,,, and I can only say that my experience in only in shooting the two rounds (and I pray that will be my only experience). there is one HELL of a difference in shooting 9mm and 357 sig. I've even bought pistols from folks who decided that round was too much for them to shoot.

Oh and I would also be interested in either a conversion kit or even a whole pistol in P320 Compact.

9mm reportedly good to 1000 yards

I couldn’t make a 1000 yard shot with AI bolt gun and a golf cart to drive 900 yards. Only way I am getting a round on target at 1000 yards is if I FedEx it there. Frown

Sounds like a pretty sweet project to me.

The carry size kit on Sigs website is $399 and that's the only one listed. The compact and full size kits are $450 and $470 respectively on GunBroker. Don't wait too long on your decision to buy. I doubt prices will get cheaper since Sig isn't really concentrating on parts for the caliber.

Would the full-sized conversion kit slide fit on the AXG frame?

The AXG Pro has a full length slide so I imagine the conversion kit slide would fit as well.

Lots of good input -- thanks everybody. My plan was to go with the Compact kit. My AXG frame is Carry size: It has a Full size grip and takes a Compact slide. I think the Full kit would work with the muzzle end of the slide sticking out past the grip frame, but I prefer the Carry configuration.

I forgot to mention that I'm in a 10-round restricted state, so I'm going to have to buy magazines separately anyway.

EDIT TO ADD: Yeah, I went ahead and did it -- just ordered the kit through Gunbroker. I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I decided I'd just have to try it and see. If I decide that .357 SIG isn't for me, you'll probably see the kit in the Classifeds soon ... Wink

Posted in another thread about shooting some 22lr in one of my P226s with Sigs conversion kit I bought here... and then realizing I had one of my other P226's in 357 sig in the range back and deciding to fire a few rounds through it after just running the pop gun... man what a difference....
