Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is switching to a Glock 9mm from their Glock 22 .40 cal pistols, according to a deputy I spoke with at church this morning. [QUOTE]Originally posted by DaBigBR: .40 is substantially on the decline. A lot of law enforcement agencies have or are moving on to 9mm and the majority of the reputable SME/trainer community did the same years ago.

I was carrying a Wilson 1911 as a duty gun. Around 1999 we went to issue Glock 35’s. First experience with the .40. No issues. Around 2013 we were issued Glock 22’s. We were able to buy our old 35’s for $325. All of them has our badge number in the serial number. XXX-127US. That was cool. So, I bought it. The Glock 22’s were very cool as they had our Dept initials and our badge number as the Serial number. XXPD-127. When I retired, the association bought my gun for me. To this day, those are the only .40 caliber guns I own. I don’t carry or shoot them but, I’d certainly have no qualms about loading one up and carrying it.

I have a P239, P226 and Beretta CX4 carbine in .40 and love them all. The supposed snappiness has never been an issue for me and quite frankly I think has been over blown to be frank. I have a 226,229,and a 239 all in .40, i usually carry the 239 and have never felt under gunned with 8 rounds in my hand and seven on my belt.I grew up shooting a .45 and a .30-06 so i am not squeamish about snappy recoil.I probably have over 10,000 once fired .40 cases, and over 5000 various projectiles, so i don't see me ever giving it up.

I have quite a few pistols in .40, and will be using .40 when I can get back to shooting more, for steel, using a P320, and a G35. I have a P2000SK in .40 that I carried for several years, and was married this last time around, with it on my ankle. I like .40.

We still issue Glock 22's in .40. Granted, there's a huge surge back to the 9mms and when we go live with RDS mounted issued pistols, they will be 9mm. That said, the .40 is still a completely viable, reliable and available (mostly) caliber. I do however, really prefer it in P series Sig's over Glocks.

When it comes to reloading I will take the S&W .40 all day long! Never had a problem making a Sig or what ever shoot well and wish my AK-v were in .40

I kept a g22 and a g23. I also have a 40SW barrel for my g20. When the FBI (and consequently nearly everyone else) dumped 40SW, I bought a few cases of it at damn near .22lr prices. It’s what I’ve been practicing with and carrying since this latest ammo slump hit. I also have a stash of 357sig and a conversion barrel for the g23

I love my .40s. Have 3 of them. A standard 229R, a 229 Nickel Slide, and a SigPro .40. Like the round, love the guns, never out of stock. I have 9mm and .45 also, but I carry the .40. The 1st .40 I got was an Arsenal Strike One. There weren't very many imported/made and it was the follow up to the 9mm version. It utilizes the bergmann block system, no barrel tilt and the lowest bore axis made ! I like shooting it and was looking for a Sig in .40 when I came across a NOS Red Box P229 with spare .357 barrel. It is my carry gun, I fell in love at 1st shot ! My MK25 is now my backup, But I've put many Ks through it so it's not far away, ever.

I still have (and will never get rid of) my P229 in .40s&w. As others have mentioned, ammo diversity can mean having options when other more popular calibers get scarce. I'm also of the opinion that the .40s&w and the .357sig really shine in restricted magazine situations. While I'd rather have 17rds of 9mm vs 12 rounds of .40, I'd also take 10 rounds of .40 over 10 rounds of 9mm. I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

229 & 239 are still in my safe. Still great shooters. Diversity is good during ammo shortages.

The second pistol I bought was a P229 in 40. A friend let me shoot his and I started prowling the classifieds here that same day. I carry it some but the Glock 26 gets the majority of my carry time. I’ll never let go of the 229 though. Each time I pick it up it’s like slipping into a comfortable old pair of jeans.

My first pistol was the P239 in .40 and I’ll never get rid of it, though I rarely shoot it and never carry it anymore. Technically I have a Mk40 as well but I haven’t fired it in years. I have a respectable .40 stash but with a G19 (similar size weight with 2x+ the capacity) and Shield (same capacity but much smaller/lighter) there’s just no reason for me burn $$ on .40. Now if Lone Wolf would ever ship my conversion barrel for my new G20, I’ll have more incentive to shoot .40 again.

I have a Gen3 22, a Gen4 23, and the Ruger PC40 with Glock mags. Like everyone else here, no complaints! Sigs P-220, P-226 9mm, & P-230SL (CCW)

My bedside gun is my 226 in .40. I love that pistol. NEVER have any problems with FTF, or FTE. Very reliable. I like the .40 so much that I also picked up a Hi-power in that caliber as well. It's also a nice pistol, but my favorite is the 226. Mine was an ex police pistol with very little usage. Almost looks brand new. I think the mag holds 12 or 13 rounds and I can't see myself ever needing more than that for home defense.

In my earlier post I mentioned having a P239 in .40. Before I bought it, I borrowed a friend's P239 .40. I had already been shooting my P229 for about 10 years. After shooting his P239, I decided the so-called "snappy" recoil was not a problem and bought one. ______________________ An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. --Nicholas Murray Butler

Yep. It's not snappy until you have to shoot it weak hand only!
