On somewhat of an impulse, I recently purchased an SP2022 9mm (E2022-9-BSS) which is the unrestricted model with two (2) 15-round magazines and a loaded chamber indicator. After doing my post-purchase homework, I discovered the CA approved version of the SP2022 does not (surprisingly) have a LCI. Neutered mags aside, in retrospect I believe I would have preferred the CA version without the LCI - provided the model isn't supplied with any other superfluous features such as a magazine disconnect safety or etc. In addition to the mandated 10-round magazines and lack of an LCI, does anyone know if there any other internal or operational differences between CA approved model and the unrestricted model? Thanks! Edit: It appears the CA version of the SP2022 has an internal extractor vs. the external extractor of the unrestricted model. Is one preferable over the other? I've never heard of anything different on them except the 10 round magazines. __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/

and every one of them words rang true and glowed like burnin’ coal. |
I have a California compliant SP2022. I can confirm that it does not have a loaded chamber indicator and that it did come with neutered 10rd mags. It didn’t come with anything screwy like a magazine disconnect. I am not aware of any other internal differences. Maybe phosphated internals, but I could be thinking of another gun.

Well damn - I just purchased the exact same situation and would rather have the other one as well. I think I prefer the internal extractor and no LCI but in reality, as long as it shoots 100%, I suppose it's not biggie. It's not going to be a duty gun or carry gun. It's for fun, possibly bedside duty and really just to have another Sig in the family.

Probably the SP2022 was added to the Cali roster prior to the LCI requirement. Just as likely, when the gun was added it had the internal extractor. And like Glock discovered when they moved over to Gen4s everywhere EXCEPT California, any "significant" changes/developments to a gun model can constitute a "new" model designation, one that no longer is grandfathered and approved to be on their state roster. It's probably not a stretch to assume that Cali viewed the extractor revision as "significant", so the old slide and extractor remains...just for Cali. -MG

TannerBoyl - Thank you for confirming the absence of a magazine disconnect safety on the CA model. monoblok - Trough some google fu I've determined the CA version was in fact added to the approved CA roster before the introduction of the loaded chamber indicator and external extractor, making it somewhat of an anomaly. To the best of my understanding, the two most recent SP2022 9mm models offered by SIG are/were: E2022-9-BSS w/ LCI, external extractor & 15-round mags. SP2022-9-BSS-CA w/out LCI, internal extractor & 10-round mags. I'm considering a new CA model my LGS has in inventory. I like that it lacks the LCI feature though I suspect the external extractor is an improvement over the original design. Does anyone have any experience/thoughts regarding the internal vs. external extractor? Thanks!

I’ve had a 2022 since they came out. The one with the 15 rd mags and the LCI. I added a SS guide rod to it when it was new and shot it heavily for the first decade or so that I had it. The SA trigger is good and the pistol has always been super accurate and 100% reliable. It spent a lot of time in my console vault as my truck gun. At the moment it needs to have the night sights changed out for the second time. Once I do that, I would have no issue rotating it back into truck gun service. +

Question for you guys, any reason why one couldn't or shouldn't just remove the LCI?

I'm certain one could remove the LCI, though I suspect the pistol would be even more cosmetically distracting. I prefer the clean look of the non-LCI CA version though the SP2022 LCI is somewhat reminiscent of the P.08 Luger. SIG SP2022 LCI Detail
