I wish I hada when I coulda! I have always thought theirs was the perfect solution to the SA/DA/cocked/not cocked/ striker argument. About as close to a perfect sidearm as you could get. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing. In the late 70's/ear;y 80's, I was very into guns, particularly handguns. I remember going to a parade in Blue Ash, Ohio. There was a uniformed Officer was carrying a H & K P7. I could not believe my eyes. I had to ask the Officer about it. He was happy to talk with me about it. He was beaming that I knew what he was carrying, as it was well before the Wonder-nine era. At the time, I suspect the P7 was considerably more expensive than most of the 4" .38 Special handguns carried by most departments. Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

Congrats on your latest acquisition, these fine pieces of German engineering are indeed, becoming harder and harder to find at a decent price. (Similar to Pythons over the past 10 years.) The trick is to have at least two of these so one can cool, whilst you shoot the other at the range. Happy shooting and thanks for sharing!

The Constable |
The NJ State Police had them for a time. Then went to the higher capacity model IIRC. I was at their Academy after they had dropped the P-7 and saw large boxes of magazines from the turned in duty weapons. Literally THOUSANDS of P-7 mags. They were not available for sale ,my "guide" as I toured the facility hinted I could fill a pocket if I wanted but he didn't want to SEE it. Being the honest person I am I passed. Bad karma anyway. But still! There were THOUSANDS of mags stacked in dozens of cardboard boxes! What a sight.

Nice post thanks for sharing, always a joy viewing a Chantilly P7! I'll share one of my P7 experiences. I don't know the exact time but I suppose it was back in the late 90's I decided I wanted a P7M8 after a friend told me about this pistol. The problem was none of the stores I frequented was able to get one, apparently NJ State Police had ordered a bunch and HK was behind in production. One of the dealers that I kept bugging to find one for me was located in the eastern panhandle of WV and actually drove over to HK in Chantilly VA to pick up his orders and he said "I'll talk to them and see if I can find one for you". Next week he Email's that he can get one for me but it's going to have to be msrp of $1,100 because he's going to have to pay $1,000. In his Email he forwards the Email from an HK employee who has a new unfired P7 that he's willing to sell to my dealer. It's from a production overrun that HK made for the DC Park Police and it's unique in that these were spec'd with a phosphate finish like they put on their USP's. I didn't really want the dull finish but whatever I bought it. A number of years later I stumbled on the fact there were only a few of the Park Police P7's known to exist in private hands and they had some value to P7 enthusiasts. I thought that was cool and I posted my experience buying the pistol here on the forum along with pics of it. Long after doing this, we're talking years, I get an Email from a person I've never heard of asking if I still have that pistol and if so he wants to buy it. I tell him I do but it's not for sale. He say's "what about trading for another pistol, say any Glock you want along with $500"? I start thinking to myself I have other P7's that I've accumulated so I really don't need this one but I can't think of any other pistol I really want.... well other than maybe Sig just brought out the $4,000 P210 Legend Super Target. So I say "ok a P210 Super Target .... and $500" thinking that should make him go away. He Emails he's looking into it and wants my address along with the FFL I use. Next day he Emails me "your Super Target (the only one I could locate in the US) is on it's way from RoCo to your FFL and a money order for $500 is in the mail, when you receive both here's my address to mail the P7". And that was that I never even spoke with him but the next day the MO comes in the mail and my FFL calls saying "you have a nice looking pistol that just arrived here". Not sure I made a good deal or not but it was a unique transaction. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

I love that German steel purple patina. Mine had that, and then I had it hard-chromed. Yours only has some honest holster wear, and I'd leave it as-is. Great early Chantilly find...congrats.
