I bought on of these recently and really like it.

I have a P365 also and realize that the P290RS was superseded by the P365. But, they shouldn’t be ignored because they were phased out by the P365. They are an excellent CCW on their own.

Anyone else have one?

I have one of the original P290's with the factory laser... really never understood the advantage of the 'reset option'. training is if you have a dead round that does not go off, tap, rack and regain target... yes, pulling the trigger might work the second time... but there is just as good a chance it won't and you'll have to chamber another round anyway... the 290 makes a pretty good pocket pistol with the proper holster.

It’s a good little heavy fir size gun. I like mine. The RS I think was marketing to account for an unusually high amount of light strikes. I don’t know if the RS fixed that or just allowed to negatively train. Lol. For what it’s worth I’ve never had a light strike in mine with an albeit very limited diet.

Good sights, small, I won a karma years ago for the different grip panels so it looks kinda cool. The trigger pull gets your finger waaay deep back upon firing. Makes for an odd trigger pull in my hand. Big hands would just be a no I imagine.

Yup. That was my chief gripe about both the original and the later 'Re-Strike' fixed variant. The albeit larger P250 SC double-action was much more preferable to me in this regard.

I had one of the original P290 pistols and I really liked the smooth trigger pull and it being dao. After a couple range sessions it had issues with firing and resetting,so it went back to Sig and they fixed it to the P290RS. It didn't have a problem after that.

I never owned one, but handled them a couple of times. My take was that it was the perfect small auto for someone who wanted to transition away from small snubbie revolvers, mainly because the trigger was so similar.

IIRC, the early ones did have some reliability issues.

This is why it made for an excellent back up pistol for cops. Flatter to conceal, a bit smaller in size, a couple more rounds and a trigger pull that was basically the same. It's why I bought and carried one for quite some time.

I had the P290, original model, i.e. no restrike and liked the gun a lot. Very reliable, good accuracy out to 15 yds or so, and since I've been a revolver shooter for 55+ years now, the 290's long trigger pull was no problem for me.

I carried at the 3-4 o'clock position in an OWB of my own make and was completely satisfied. But for a short bbl'd auto, it's just too heavy (IMHO), for pocket carry in any garment short of a fall/winter parka. I traded it in on a P365 NIB for the gun plus $100 to boot.

The 365 has been equally reliable, more accurate in my hands and I really REALLY, like the sights. That big green dot really REALLY shows up in most any lighting condition. The 365's about the same size as the 290, but its lighter weight makes it a possible for pocket carry should that be necessary. We all have our favorites but the 365 is mine for everyday carry into town.

I have one in 380. Ejection is so weak that the only way to get reliable function is to point the ejection port down. Yeah you have to shoot it Gangsta style using your left hand. It's really a bit of a shame because the 290 has a wonderful double action trigger, feels just like a well tuned S&W model 19.

I've stopped counting.

that 380 sounds like it might have the wrong recoil spring on it.... not an expert, just saying..

I bought a 290RS years ago for something under $300 from CDNN (of course).

I like it especially for the price and it does remind me of a small revolver especially the trigger pull as people have said.

Makes for a great pocket 9mm.

I also have a P250SC (subcompact) and I like the trigger and capacity of that more but the 290RS is definitely very slim and small.

I ran into a deal at a gun shop for $10 dollar SIG magazines for 290RS so I have something like 3 8 round mags and 8 6 round mags.

I like the restrike function in theory as far as if ammo didn't go off the first time but I've never had to use that.

I have a 290RS in .380. Zero issues with it so far and it’s one of the few pistols I feel safe carrying with a loaded chamber. Only drawback is I have to reset the grain of the metal on the barrel hood after each range session - it always looks dinged up afterwards. Anyone have a spare barrel for one in .380?

amc - if I were smarter, I could post a photo. I'm sure you remember the barrel hoods on the older SIG's - before they coated them. Bare metal with a nice brushed finish. Take them out ONCE to fire them and the nice brushed finish was marred by the barrel cycling into the slide. Ditto for my P290RS. This is no big deal for 98% of the not-abnormal US population Wink. I'm odd and anal, so I bring it home and re-cut (not sure of term) the brushed effect on the barrel hood. I use Tamiya 2000-grit plastic model foam sandpaper off of AMZ. The appearance isn't 100% straight and perfect, as that would take a wire (I assume bronze) wheel but it looks great afterwards.
