Thanks for the additional comments and video link. Despite having attended two P320 armorer courses, some of how the trigger mechanism works was/is a little vague to me. | |||

Who says the inertia of the trigger bar and upper half of the trigger necessarily counteracts the mass of the finger piece? Mass balance is the key. Getting the trigger CG in the optimal location matters. Just making the trigger lighter isn't the main point here. And those values all change as trigger leverage is increased. To answer Sigfreund's excellent question: The Glock tab safety is absolutely necessary for drop safety integrity in those pistols. This is because, unlike in some other striker-gun designs, the trigger acts upon the entire fire control train from below it's pivot axis. A good friend and firearms engineer likens the effect to having both kids on one end of the teeter-totter. Having one kid on each end is more balanced, even if one of 'em is a bit bigger. From there, we can scoot the big kid up or lengthen the skinny kid's side...you get the basic idea. The P320 hasn't needed such a trigger tab safety to meet its design criteria, whether before the voluntary upgrade, or now. There is a potential role for such devices in this platform, but that is to achieve some pull characteristics well beyond what anybody should wish in a service pistol. -Bruce Designer and custom pistolsmith at Grayguns Inc.
