I purchased four new Sigs in my life. A beautiful P230SL which I sold to a fellow forum member to fund getting an even more beautiful (to me) P239 two tone SAS in .357Sig. Many years ago I also bought beautiful P220 in .45ACP. I sold the P220 to a friend a couple years ago as it was my only .45ACP item and it simply turned into a safe queen. No classic Sig P series like the P220 should be a safe queen IMHO. I also purchased a P229 in .357Sig shortly after they came out. The P229 doesn't see much use these days but the P239 does EDC work about half the time. My Ruger revolvers and my Henry lever actions are all getting used on a regular basis though. Then last weekend, Tom Grisham on his Gun Talk podcast releases this: https://www.guntalk.com/gt25 I've never owned a 1911 or a 10mm. But I sure am excited about this GT25 beauty. To fund it I 'could' sell off some .357Sig ammo or even the P239 and the P229. Sig abandoned their namesake round a long time ago but I haven't. Not yet anyway. Decisions, decisions.

Looks intriguing. I have become something of a 1911 addict of late But I'm afraid that rather prominent "GT" logo on the slide would be a non-starter for me. Besides that: The problem I'd have buying any Ruger semi-auto sight unseen is that, with the exception of my venerable MkI and my LCP: I've never met a Ruger semi-auto I could truly like. Closest was the SR1911 LW in 9mm. But, after seeing three of them at an LGS, all of which differed in frame and slide finishes, and none of which had truly good 1911 triggers, I passed. I like Ruger wheel guns, though. "America is at that awkward stage. Seems like a lot of gun for the money. I'd change two things: round butt the mainspring housing SIG style and lose the front cocking serrations. And chrome the lower, 1911's have to have some bling factor

I'm a huge Ruger fan, and that is a sweet looking 1911. I really like the idea of a 10mm commander, too. That said, if you're planning on keeping the 229 and 239, I wouldn't sell off your ammo to pay for it. Nothing worse than having guns around that you can't shoot due to lack of ammo.

I can be an enabler big time, but this time I'm not so sure. What do you want the 10mm Ruger for? Do you really want a 10mm gun? You sold your P220 because it was your only .45ACP, will you sell off the Ruger because it is your only 10mm? I've got two 10mm guns, a S&W 610 revolver and a S&W 1076. To be honest, neither gets used much because 10mm ammo can be spendy and I don't reload for this caliber.

A man can have more than one love in guns. My Sigs are terrific firearms. My Ruger 1911 in 10mm is also a favorite. Been reliable with a variety of ammo including Underwood 135, 180 and 200gr. The later for hiking / backpacking in bear country. My other favorite a Glock 29SF in 10mm another backpacking unit and if it's wet weather that's what I pack. My Ruger SR1911 has been great and runs trouble free. It just came back from Novak for a sight upgrade. And I would consider the Ruger 10mm but I cant see 1700 bucks for it. One of the things that makes a Ruger attractive to me is affordable quality. 1K? Then I would jump. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

I am a big fan of Ruger guns, particularly their revolvers. My 10mm GP100 is probably my favorite revolver of all time. I only own one Ruger 1911 and have never had a 10mm 1911, but I bet the combo will be fantastic. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

The GT25 isn't your run of the mill Ruger or 1911, it has all the interior custom touches one would expect from a truly custom builder. Another advantage is it comes from the Ruger Custom Shop. Therefore, customer service, if ever needed, would be easy and simple. What would I want it for? Good question. Because I want it and it comes as close to a 'do anything' handgun as they come. Though I can't actually bring myself to sell or trade off the P239 or the P229. They're IMHO, wonderful pieces to have and will greatly outlast me and my grand children. I purchased a 'spare parts kit' kit for them just in case as well. I also have a rather healthy supply of .357sig ammo for them. Everything from frangible to standard practice to Gold Dots and other premium SD rounds. I also can't see myself going from .38spl/.357mag to 10mm. My GP100's, SP101's, LCR's and Henry lever guns are too good to consider replacing. I have .40S&W barrels and magazines for the P239 and the P229 but I've never had a 40S&W round in my inventory. Therefore, I'd have to add another caliber and then likely also get a GP100 in 10mm in either or both 3" and/or 4.2". At that rate, buying the GT25 becomes the easiest part of the equation. Buying the GT25 is only done through Dury's Guns in Texas and they do love trade ins. I'm just not at the point of replacing my current pieces with a 10mm 1911. Even my wife suggested keeping everything we have and only consider the GT25 as a new road to go down. I married well above my level.

Hoping they make this a regular production item. I've longed kicked myself for not picking up a Dan Wesson commander sized 10mm when they were available. My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

Not for everything but I've been coming to apprecuate them more and more. The one gun I always carry is a Ruger. Both of my .22 practice/training/teaching 22's are Ruger (the 617 is just for me).

The GT 25 is limited to 500 pieces, well over 100 were sold in the first week. It's really quite an item being all stainless steel and loaded with custom pieces throughout. Sadly, I'm going to pass on one at this time. Though I did drop off the 6" Bull Barrel from a Ruger Mark II at my LGS today to have threads cut into it. I also picked up a threaded barrel for the LCP II and the SP22. Next I'll have to get one suppressor that will work on all three of them.

I am not crazy about the GT logo on the rear of the slide, but a 10mm Commander is a fun concept. Does anyone know why it is made in Precott AZ? I am not familiar with Gun Talk Radio.

https://www.guntalk.com/ Tom Gresham has been on the air as a pro 2nd Amendment voice for 25 years as of 2020. The GT25 was delayed a year due to Covid. I believe the Ruger Custom Shop is in AZ which is the department that hand fits and finishes the GT25. IMHO, Tom is one of the very best voices we have for educating 2nd Amendment fans. People like Mark Walters, AAR, learned the business from people like Tom Gresham. The YouTube channel for Gun Talk has a section called First Person Defender which is some of the best instructional material available.

My other Sig is a Steyr. |
Keep in mind that when the GT20 came out, it was somewhat overpriced and months delayed. If you would like a 10mm 1911, buy something else. If you want this model, be prepared to wait... and wait... and then buy something else. Dury's will be too busy to answer any questions you may have. Good luck.

Well I'll call first dibs on the P239 in 357... got talked into letting one of my 9mm ones go to a friend over the weekend. Or maybe the ammo? I was a Ruger fan for about 10 years then they went pretty much all striker and poly and I discovered Sigs ... Well, at least the P226 and P239 I already had a P230.
