Ruger LCP fail to a win.

dsietsRuger LCP fail to a win.
My brother works for himself so he can carry what he wants. He likes the Ruger LCP for fit in his front pocket.
So he's had his LCP for awhile and it wouldn't go through a mag or two w/o a FTE. I finally went to go shoot w/ him and had the same problem. Two or so fails per mag was common.
This is after the gun had been back to Ruger TWICE. One of those times, I think they just game him a new slide and sent it back to him.
He's tried many different loads plus most of a case of 1k. My advice to just use fmj for .380 anyway doesn't work if they don't function either.
Mentioning the problem to the store range counter gets the usual, "well, those small guns, they aren't reliable due to size and their ability to be gripped properly...yada yada
So I got in the interwebs and found this guy whom Ruger sent a new extractor for no help:
https://youtu.be/BpOqNTK43HQI got a call today my brother followed the vid and ran 150 rounds through his LCP w/ not a single problem.
Considering the gun had been back to Ruger twice, and this is not an uncommon problem w/ the LCP (some w/ LCP II), that Ruger would catch on, rather than to play mailbox bingo w. their firearms.
While this is a good eventual ending, I'm wondering how long the extractor spring is going to work before it needs home gunsmithing again.

ensigmaticDunno what to tell you. My 2nd Gen. LCP ran everything I fed it right from the start. I don't recall ever having a failure of any kind.
Which reminds me: It's past time it got some range time.

I didn't suggest none of them work. Hence, Go thee forth to the range and wring out your LCP w/ various loads and appreciate it's reliability...w/o having to home gunsmith it.
While you're here, you liking the Xtp? The Remington for heavier load? ...?

Pfft. The round absolutely never would've made it. It would've had to go through him first and with how THICK his sweater is...(old .380 cliché in full force here

)
Having live ammo on the bench like that when working on a gun...admittedly it's not something I like seeing.

TBH: I don't recall, off-hand, what I'm carrying. I'd have to go downstairs and look.
Between SF member recommendations, what I read elsewhere on the 'net, and Lucky Gunner tests, I developed a list. It'll be two of the following:
- Hornady Custom .380 ACP with 90-grain XTP JHP
- Fiocchi Extrema XTP(TM) 90-grain XTP JHP, part # 380XTP25
- Federal Premium Hydra-Shok® 90-grain JHP
- HPR HyperClean XTP 90-grain JHP
- Precision One .380 ACP 90 grain XTP
I'm fairly sure they're two of the first three on that list.
As to how I'm liking them: They run. I hope I never have to find out whether or not I like them

Flash-LBSame problem seems to crop up for some people with the P3AT.
I've got 2 of them that have run flawlessly, though. Guess I've been lucky.
The most rounds I ever ran through one in one range session was 120 rounds without lube or cleaning.
My hand was a tad sore afterwards, though.

The Custom line was discontinued and replaced by the current American Gunner line.

I don't know what they do differently, but Precision One consistently tests better than all the other companies that use the same Hornady XTP bullet.
The Lucky Gunner tests used a G42 w/ 3.25" barrel. Other testers such as Shooting The Bull used guns w/ 3.75"-3.8" barrel. The half inch in barrel length makes a significant difference in ballistic results.

FredwardBoth my LCP's (original and Max) run very well with Gold Dot, which is great since I stumbled onto a deal on two cases.
