I just picked up a West German Herndon marked P226 and noticed the frame rails have some indentions on either side. These aren't as prominent as the mud rails I have seen on earlier pistols, but am curious if these indentations were some other modification. The Pic below shows what I'm referring to. It's a little hard to see but if you look closely you can see a couple areas where the rails seem to scalloped in a subtle manner.
Any idea what this is and if it was a later version of the mud rails or something else? Thanks.
