Does anyone have information on UK military use of P226’s obsoleted in 2013? I suspect that these preceded the 1980 introduction in the U.S. and have a different SN range. I have UK made military style holsters marked for P226 but not dated.

The P226 was initially adopted for use by the SAS and SBS as the L105A1 in the late 1980s, with a few thousand additional P226s/L105A1s being purchased for wider use by some UK military units like the Royal Marines starting in 1996. A few thousand more P226Rs (designated L105A2) were also procured in 2007 as a supplement for the UK military's aging Hi Power as combat was expanding in Iraq/Afghanistan, before eventually being superseded by the Glock 17 (L131A1) as the UK military's new standard issue handgun in 2013.

It took RogueJSK 19 minutes to answer the question, he’s slowing down in his old age. Big Grin

Kids these days... Ungrateful little brats don't know nothin' about delayed gratification. Back in my day, we had to wait weeks for answers to questions like this to be delivered by Pony Express! Uphill. Through the snow. And we liked it!

THANKS ROGUE FOR THE GOOD INFO. MORE QUESTIONS: WHO SUPPLIED THE UK? AS A NATO MEMBER THEY COULD ORDER FROM ANY OTHER NATO COUNTRY. I SEE A LARGE GAP IN REPORTED SN IN 1988 HERNDON PRODUCTION. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT US SUPPLIED? HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN ONE OF THESE? SINCE UK ROUTINELY DESTROYS OBSOLETED WEAPONS, I WOULD NOT EXPECT TO FIND ANY, BUT UK DID ADVERTISE THE SALE OF GUNS IN 2012/13, BUT CREATED A FUROR, SO MAYBE THERE WAS NO SALE. ALSO, I WONDER IF THE P226 WAS MARKED WITH THE NATO STOCK NR LIKE THE HI POWER AND THE P5 COMPACT?
