Cool!

Most of the time the stories get lost to history.

It would be neat to see how all of this turns out.

Thanks for sharing this with us and thanks to Para for bringing the story to light.

I found a stainless P226 40S&W that came from an estate a few years ago. It didn't show any signs of being carried or shot. Clean as a whistle. I ordered a 357SIG barrel for it, and have shot both rounds through it without any issues.

That’s a nice find. Got any pics?

Well my revised strategy at the lgs was successful. I spoke to the owner this time and didn’t mention how potentially rare this sig could be. This avoided making the shop look bad for not vetting what they had, and avoided throwing any of his employees under the bus. He is contacting the person he bought the pistol from and will let me know if they are interested in my inquiry. Plus, money talks.

Odds are still slim, but now there are 2 paths instead of just one.

Just get it. You can get your money back, probably here if it does not live up to the hype.

Wow, love these deep/interesting historical finds and the additional info which can arise out of the forum unexpectedly. Good luck finding the box!

In 1989, the PD I worked for changed their "Personally owned-Department approved" policy, so those of us that carried SAO 9mm pistols were no longer allowed to do so as primary duty weapons. I was the first officer there, that purchased and carried a Sig P226 and since my department was a beach city, I sent the pistol off to a Texas company called "T&T Technologies" for application of their "Tef-Nickel" finish to make it more resistant to the salt air. The finish looks a lot like what's on your pistol and mine's held up pretty well over the years, though I don't carry the piece that much these days. Years ago, I swapped out the OEM grips for these new designs, as the screws on the older version kept backing out.

The lgs contacted the owner. The box is nowhere to be found and is believed to be thrown away.

I’m still in contact with the photographers son, he has been looking, but there is apparently a massive amount of his dad’s work to look through. Needle in haystack.

Wish I had better news.

Some… slightly more positive news. I received an email from the son today-
“ I was able to look a little bit today and I did find some gun photos. Unfortunately, not the one you need.

I found this 8x10” transparency of what appears to be a P228 but the good news is that the s/n is legible so if I find yours, that may be too. Bad quality photo since I took it with my cell phone against my computer monitor.”

The son keeps sending photos he finds. His dad has an epic archive of historic pistol photos… I can’t make them larger, I’ve tried.

I have confidence additional images of the pistols in question will turn up eventually.

Apparently, his father had a fairly close relationship with SIGARMS/SIG-Sauer.

Please convey our thanks to the son for his efforts.

Unfortunately there have been no updates. I just had the pistol broken down and wanted to document it here

Great story.

After purchasing a used gun, I usually spend some time researching it to learn as much as I can. All part of the gun collecting journey.
