Been intrigued and looking at the 365XL and 365 Macro, thinking, "Do I really need one of these?" I already have a 365 and it has become my most frequently carried gun. Then I start to think that maybe the size and weight of it has allowed me to get a little lazy and start to think, "Maybe I should be carrying something bigger..." So is the added height and length of the XL or Macro really worth it over the standard 365? My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

You don't need it. You want it. Have the original P365. I wanted the Macro Tacops. So, I got it. Didn't need it. Q

I'll start with the XL: Height? Yes. Length? No. The slightly longer barrel length doesn't get you anything of use on the P365XL. But the slightly longer grip and added capacity (12 vs. 10 in flush fit magazines) does, especially if you're already using pinky rest extensions on your P365 as it is. The XL also has a slightly more prominent beavertail, which I find helps people like me who have bigger hands. However, to get these benefits of the XL grip length and capacity doesn't require buying a whole new gun. You can simply grab a factory XL grip module or a Wilson Combat XL grip module for like $60, and install your P365 FCU and slide assembly on it, making a "P365X". This is my favorite configuration. Here is an older shot of my P365 in the factory XL grip, though mine currently lives in a Wilson Combat XL grip which I think is better than factory. Now, I don't have any experience on the Macro, so I can't speak to that. But it seems like that's a bigger difference from the P365, compared to just the XL, that if you're after a true G19-sized P365 it might justify buying a whole new pistol, whereas the XL does not.

I have both and will share my observations and opinions. The 365 is my primary CCW, but after a class in 2020, I realized that I didn’t shoot it even remotely close to a Glock 19. I put it in reserve and started carrying the G19 and training with the 365 to be more proficient. It wasn’t until I put on the XL grip on the original 365 that I improved exponentially with it and decided that configuration offered me the smallest pistol I could shoot well. When Sig released the P365 XL tacops model which came w/ 3 magazines and an optics plate that didn’t remove the rear sight, that I decided to get an XL. The thought was it might be better for serious range practice and they would share the same grip (Wilson XL) and trigger system as my CCW plus I got 3 more 12 round magazines. Do you need an XL? The added length of the barrel offers very little if any perceived advantages. The added grip texture, shape, and length of the Wilson XL frame make both pistols about as capable as a larger CCW platform with practice. The benefit of having an optic ability is nice, but I don’t think I’m ever going to do it on this particular firearm. I could just as easily only have the XL or only have the original P365 and be completely satisfied. It was a “want” and I am happy I did it. Now the Macro is an entirely different animal. It goes beyond the XL frame and looks kind of goofy to me. My hands are on the average size of large. My adult son’s hands are much larger than mine and the macro frame fits his hand like the XL fits mine. To him, it is his Goldilocks and his plan is to purchase one in the near future. To answer your question, no you don’t need a 365XL. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil

I like the P365X. Longer grip with shorter barrel still. But if you want to do that then just buy an XL grip mod for $40-50 and swap it out for your p365 parts you already have. Unless you really need the optic cut on your carry gun. Or buy a new gun because it never hurts to have another, And you want it, So get it

I always seem to find my way back to Glock 19 sized guns for this reason. For me the HK P2000. They aren’t drastically harder to conceal and are drastically better to “fight” with in my experience. As for the OP. I have thought about picking a 365 of some kind up. I like the Macro and XL but always come back to why not pick up the regular P365 and just get a grip module or modules to have the versatility of the itty bitty gun and the larger “fighting” guns. I say do as suggested above and buy an XL module and make an X. If you love it and decide you want two guns then you can buy a “real” XL so to speak and also have the regular 365. Lots of versatility. As for NEEDING a gun for a specific purpose……….sigh I passed the NEED off ramp doing about 120 MPH many many many miles back. "Guns are tools. For pocket carry only, no. For something closer to a Compact size, yes. I don't have a Macro. You can: (1) Change your current standard P365 to a P365X or (2) Just buy a P365X. I agree with other posters that the 3.7" XL barrel isn't a major advantage over the 3.1". IMO, the longer grip is, My bottom line after changing to the WC XL grip frame is that it shoots/handles like a Compact. Just have to be sure you use a firm grip for fast multiple shot strings. Amazing little pistol. See my post on changing a Standard P365 to a P365X: https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...500010105#1500010105 ______________________ An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. --Nicholas Murray Butler

I bought a Macro. It quickly got parted out and the Macro grip module sits unused in my safe somewhere. The Macro brings NOTHING to the table besides the very nice 17 round mags. I can get the comp without a Macro. The Macro grip is inferior, by a lot, to the Wilson Combat X grip module. So I use the WC X and standard WC grip modules and use the big 17 rounder with appropriate base pad for my reload. My personal carry is a WC standard size module with a normal length slide/barrel, Magguts +2 innards, and carry a 17 round Macro mag with correct base pad for reloads. I shoot the X a bit better, but the standard disappears in my G Code holster. Hard to beat combo. In this configuration I have 30 rounds on my body in a tiny, easy to shoot well package. If I carry my X version it ups it to 32 rounds. That is hard to beat. Worth saying twice.

I think that unless you are going to pocket carry that the X/XL grip module is a substantial improvement over the 12 round sleeved mag.

hope this is ok to post in your thread, I'm looking at a tac ops, like the feel of it and the 17 rd mags just wondering if its snappy compared to a 48 or 43x ? I do know I prefer the 48 over the 43x. maybe in between?

I have an XL, actually I had a couple till recently, but never really found a need to carry it over my standard 365. If I had huge hands it might be different, but the 365 fits my fine.

It’s simple & inexpensive enough to just swap grip frames. You’ll also need mags to accommodate the longer grip. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

"Need" is one thing that only you can answer. As for myself I never developed the need or even want for the next size up 365s. Small hands make handling the standard 365 just fine, even with the flush 10rd mags. I previously used the P365 as my secondary carry option. On those occasions when I had to switch to it over my regular EDC. almost exclusively I used it with the sleeved factory 12 and even 15rd mags and frankly never felt any need to formally update to the X or XL when those guns (and subsequent grip modules) became available. The standard P365s of mine always operated and shot reliably with extended mags and yet they still concealed quite well under more 'challenging' attire, primarily because of its significant reduction in girth over my regular EDC G23. I did buy a Macro later on, but I was more curious about its compensator slide than actually using it as a carry option. By then I had already switched over to the Shield Plus for my secondary option, primarily because I shoot the S&W better. -MG
