I’m an experienced shooter, but relatively new to handguns. The gun will be used as a range gun, informal 25 yard target and steel plate shooting. I like the feel of the 1911 grip. Accuracy is paramount . From what I’ve read I’m thinking about either the Langdon full size Beretta 92x with tactical trigger job or Sig 226 Legion, but don’t know if there might be other models that might serve my purpose better. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Tom
The Beretta 92X is an absolute homerun from Beretta packed with features people have been begging for and at an affordable price. Personally I’d just order the TJIAB kit from Langdon and install myself. From the new grips you get, interchangable sights (dovetail), frame checkering and the ability to get the F or G model straight from the factory in fullsize or centurion frame, its a winner.
The legion is and has been oozing with a cool factor since introduction, no doubt its a solid gun but if I remember pricing right...even with the TJIAB and night sights, the Beretta is coming in $300+ less and stock vs stock is about $600 less.
For what you are doing of those two you want the SAO legion. No point in either of the DA/SA guns unless the rules you are competing in require that. In that case get the Beretta. Edited to add, if accuracy is your goal there a many, many other choices that may/are better. If you like Sig's I suggest P210's and/or X-5's if you can find them. Or CZ 75's in their competition series with SAO Czechmate or one of the many 1911 9mm competition guns.
“So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”
You’d have more fun with a 92X compact or LTT 92 Compact. I just introduced a few new shooters to handguns. Ran them through with both a 92X compact & 92 Compact that have been worked up with trigger groups from Langdon (TJIAB) mods. Good luck

Purely my personal opinion, I'd go with the Langdon Beretta. There is nothing wrong with or bad about a P226, I just find I like the 92 platform better.

I am visiting family here in Florida and we decided to head over to Shooters World to peruse the store. My father has talked about it so I was excited to go.
It was an awesome store with the only downside being I did not see a Beretta 92x.
I am a die hard Sig, Beretta and CZ person. From the choices that you are looking at I would have to go with the Beretta.
I have carried the Beretta 92/M9 off and on since Jan 2002 whether in LE/Army. So I am more a basic 92sf person, but I have taken a serious interest in the 92x. I want to try the Vertec back strap. It is reminds me of the CZ 40 collaboration.
In my personal opinion I think it is easier on the eye and arms over extended shooting times than the Sig 226. Now, I have both but I feel the Beretta is easier to shoot.
Now if it is was the P229 vs the 92x, that would cause me numerous sleepless nights making lists and checking it twice.
I do not think the Sig Legion is worth the extra money of a Beretta 92x. Plus the savings in money can be put to the continuous rising cost of ammo.

When I got back into shooting center fire pistols a few years back the first pistol I bought was a SIG P226 Legion. A while later I bought what was then my dream Beretta 92 (since the Elite II was out of production and very expensive in the used pistol market), a Wilson Combat Brig Tac that I added the action tune and mag guide to before it shipped over 10 months later(!). As time went on I found myself shooting the Beretta more and more while the SIG sat in the safe. Over the next several months I bought a P226 RX Elite SAO, and then a P226 Legion SAO, and sold the DA/SA Legion. The SAO guns are awesome, but you have a hard time beating a tricked out Beretta 92 IMHO. I have since bought a Cen Tac and a LTT Elite, and love them all.
Tough choice, but hard to make a bad one.

I'm concerned that the P226 grip is going to be too thick and fat since you said you liked a 1911 grip.... E2 or G10 grips might fix this.... factory grips are way too fat for me.... I have no clue about the Beretta.. but as mentioned... again since you mentioned liking a 1911 you probably also aught to look at a Single Action only one...
Definitely the 226. I have some physical problems with my hands and because of the heavier slide that the TT 6 and 229 have I do not even feel the recoil. The 92 FS has a massive frame but has an open slide. I believe the SIG is better balanced but that is just my humble opinion.

TL;DR - If you like both the Beretta 92 and P226 platforms, between the LTT and Legion, I'd go LTT. It's a better made gun and costs less.
Longer version - The P-classic series is one of my favorites. A P226 was my first gun, which I still own, and my reason for joining SF. I've not owned by have shot DA/SA Legions. They were nice, but I didn't think that much nicer than even a base Nitron P226/229 and didn't justify their price tag.
I had a 92G Elite LTT Compact. It had the best DA/SA trigger I've ever used. As much as I wanted to like it, I feel 92s don't fit my hand and point as naturally for me as other guns, such as P-classics. That is not a knock against the 92 platform; it simply is my personal experience. If you like the 92 platform, then I highly recommend the LTT series - even better if you order directly from Langdon Tactical.
If you must have SIG, I agree w/ others to consider something like an all-German X5. I've never tried a Legion SAO, so I can't comment.
If you're open to other brands, I concur to strongly consider a CZ competition gun.
Tanfoglios also has some very nice offerings. I had a SAO EAA/Tanfo Witness Elite Match 9mm, and it was one of the best shooting guns I've ever used. Arex Alpha is a DA/SA comp gun w/ safety that is like a poor-man's SIG X5. The SA pull on the Alpha is outstanding. Both the Elite Match and Alpha are relative bargains that can be found in the $850-900 range new. I'd take either over a Legion and have hundreds of dollars left over to buy ammo.

If you like all steel guns try the Langdon 92X Performace. It is da/sa but there is no way to shoot it in double action as it doen NOT have a de-cocker.
Go to the range and rent one of each. They might not have the exact model but most any range will have a P226 and a Beretta 92 series. Try them out and use that as a basis for your decision unless you would rather just choose a pistol based one someone else's personal preference. I have tried both and for me I prefer my P226 but they are both fine firearms.
As between the Sig 226 Legion and the Beretta 92x, I would pick the 92x for many reasons. I have both and love them both, but Beretta created a very special 92 that is a sweet shooter in all respects; from feel in the hand to point of aim- point of impact... I have two Langdon 92 with complete jobs and the 92X has most if not all of the characteristics of the Langdon without the trigger job. Get the 92x is my opinion.

Berettas completely breathed over by Langdon are truly magnificent handguns. The Legion is a good firearm but to me it's not that close of a choice unless the ergonomics of the SIG simply works better for you. And I still hear grouses from customers about the poor durability of their Legions' finishes.
