My bad. I was speaking of the .357 Magnum round in general, rather than out of a 4" revolver, specifically. However I did once medal in handgun metal silhouette with my 4" bbl. Ruger Security Six. Got to the scoring table and they go "You shot this with what?!?!" I think I actually did that twice with that revolver before I acquired my T/C Contender. "America is at that awkward stage. I'm glad somebody addressed the *setback* problem, real or perceived with 357 Sig. Looks like it takes about a Torx#10 or Torx#15 to screw those bullets into the threaded cases. Is that about right? ____________________

My Ruger Security Six: I didn't even realize this was there until after the fact: It reads "Made in the 200th year of American liberty", which is also the year in which I purchased it. The action was tuned by a gunsmith regarded as the area's best at the time. He also hand-fit those grips for me. Just ordered 200 rounds of Fiocchi 158 gr. I never really cared for revolvers after the 629 I bought many years ago. Don't get me wrong, the 629 was/is an awesome gun but I had to sell it when I got my first apartment. As time went on I never cared for the lower capacity/bulk of a revolver. Now, I find myself wanting them more and more and I want a Blackhawk 4" 357. My son has claimed my 4" Gp100 for his own after we took it out, and when he is old enough, it will be his. I don't know if it is age or experience that has me coming back to the revolver.

I've got three 4" wheel guns. A 19-2, a 586 no dash, and a Python. I find the 4" barrel to be the ideal length in terms of performance and balance. _____________________________ 'I'm pretty fly for a white guy'.

I have several 4" wheel guns chambered in 357 that get regular range time: an S&W Mdl. 66-1, an Mdl. 19-no dash, several N frames, and a recent favorite: a late 50's Colt 357. And you're really right about how much fun shooting these old 6 guns can be. Jerry

My only K frame 357 is a 2 1/2" P&R model 19 and I have only ever shot 38's out of it. Just because it is more of a fun gun. The only 4" 357 I own is a model 28 Highway Patrolman. Now THAT is a fun gun A few years back when my buddy retired I was in charge of finding the right pistol to get him. We ended up with a 2 1/2" model 66-1 and added an R. Grizzle OWB holster with it. He moved back to Kentucky and calls it his church gun

No one here spec'ed that it had to be a six shooter. If I were going for a 4" .357 Magnum, it would likely be a Smith 686+. And to make it worse, if I got a 686+, it would like be a 3"

patw: If you are going Blackhawk, get the convertible model with the extra 9mm cylinder. I can shoot cheap 9mm out of it and save $$$. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

This 586 no dash still gets some use around here, along with a couple airweights, a kimber k6, and a smith 640 pro.

the outfit I worked for right after college issued pretty beat up Colts and in some cases Smith Model 10's. We also had the option of purchasing our own sidearm, which after experiencing the quality of the issue guns, I shelled out the then-princely sum of about 250 bucks on a brand shiney new Model 19. The mix of Smiths and Colts on the firing line could be revealing. If they gave the command, "load two rounds and fire" and you heard click click click click BANG you knew the shooter was using a Colt when they were used to a Smith, or vice versa.
