I still love my P229/.40 TT. And I have a factory barrel in .357SIG (from Eckernforde) with test target. The 229 is a keeper for sure. I may have to look for another 229. Of course, the prices will probably go even higher now. Maybe I’ll wait for the P226 Compact as 12131 is theorizing.

I concur. My first duty gun was a legacy slide P229 in .40, and while it wasn't bad for a .40, it was kind of a brick.

Did you have issues with weapon mounted lights staying put?

Well, I have too many and too much invested to worry about Sig discontinuing my favorite pistol!

I will continue to carry and shoot my P229s in .40 / .357 until I deplete my ammo stash, they all are broken.
Or,I run out of spare parts.
Probably wont happen @ my age!

Nope, because we didn't have them, lol. That gun didn't even have a rail. I do recall a couple of lights falling off when I was at the academy or training with other agencies, but don't recall if those were P229s, P220s, or Glocks.

Our agency did have a couple of railed guns, but no holsters to accommodate a light (we were still using the old Safariland SSIII). I do recall a couple of guys (gear whore types) who had little pouches on their belt for an old incandescent TLR-1 or something like that, and would take it out and stick it on their drawn gun when they wanted to use it. I think eventually they did get WML holsters, but we didn't go to those agency-wide until we switched to the P320s in 2017.

I know it has been an issue but maybe it has more to do with the .40 caliber cartridge than the pistol itself.

At one time I had both the 226 Legion SAO and the 229 Legion SAO. I shot them both extensively and found that I shot the 229 much better. I sold the 226. At this point I have 3 variations of 229 in 9 and .40

Sold my first P229, it was a mistake, but when DOS switched to G19's 229's were offered, got two consecutive serial numbers, low round count. I will keep these. And the P226 MK25.
I still run the 229 during refresh classes occasionally while the qualifiers run the G19.

One of my first classes was with you and Bruce at SIG Academy with my P226 MK25, little learning curve on DA/SA

Well isn't that special! I have two Sigs a P-229 and a P-239, both discontinued. I understand that what people want changes and Sig has changed to stay current with those wants. However, over many, many years and thousands of rounds, my two Sigs fired ONLY when I pulled the trigger, unlike some of Sigs more recent offerings.

I guess I need to change my name to Austin226XProEliteLegion or something for whatever SIG USA is making now Smile

in any case the real P228 and P229 have been gone a long time at this point, the P229-1 going away doesn't mean too much.

get some extra firing pins/extractors/recoil springs from Wolff, you're good to go.

and I doubt Mec-Gar will immmediately stop making P228/P229 and/or P229-1 magazines.

I have a magnificent 229 9mm two tone one foot away from me as I type. It's never going anywhere I don't until I go into the box. I like my 228s better, but the 229 is my desk gun. And it is so handsome. Stainless slide, black frame. it just looks great and runs like a clock.

Kinda sad to hear, but not unexpected. First handgun I ever bought with my own money was a P229 in 357sig almost 30 years ago. Still one of my favorites.
