Lord VaalicDo I need new sights on a G34 with a red dot
On the new G34 Gen 5 MOS, if I get a red dot on it, do I need to install taller sights to co-witness or do any work with factory sights?

KevboIt depends on which red dot you use
For pretty much any of them you will need at least suppressor height sights
But, for example, the Leupold deltapoint pro sits higher off the frame, so the only sights that will actually co witness with the dot are dawson’s Extra tall sights (warning, this will make finding a holster a pain)

HRKIm not sure it's necessary, put suppressor sights on the G40 with red dot, and put red dot on the G34 without changing irons.
Frankly I prefer the G343 setup, mainly because with the matching sights you spend time trying to line up the dot, sights and target,
If you get the dot setup properly for the G34 it won't matter that it doesn't co-witness unless you think it's going to be a big problem for you if the dot fails.
Unless you operate in combat zones, high crime urban areas or running top gun matches, where a dot failure could be critical, for range and target it's just not that big of a deal..
You can always take the red dot off if it fails, it's just two screws, keep the allen with you in your range kit..

KevboTo piggyback on what HRk said, if the dot fails in a self defense situation, at the ranges you’ll be at, just get the bad guy in the window and pull the trigger
I previously have carried deltapoints, and did not have the Dawson extra tall sights because it fucked with my holster selection
Not having irons made me a much better shooter with the dot
Now I am switching to aimpoint acros, and they sit lower so I have backup irons again...but I don’t use them...they are truly a backup...it’s like shooting a red dot on a rifle. You ignore the irons unless the dot fails

hrcjonyour nuts on a self defense gun not to have night site capable irons that work. just me of course. But if you want to meet and shoot a course of fire at normal defense ranges (0-25y) I'd be happy to show you why.
