Anyone had this problem? Decocker quit working on my 3 month old P229 Elite Carry. Happened once before and local gunsmith fixed it but said if it happens again send it to Sig which I have done.

Someone else had a decocker problem with a 229 recently. What's up with this? Should I be worried?

Here it is.

Did your gunsmith tell you what he fixed? What exactly were the symptoms? Would it decock but the lever not return? Does the lever travel downwards and return without decocking the gun? Is the lever locked up and won't travel at all?

It seems the other thread referred to a P229 that would not decock without a round in the chamber (which seems odd to me, as I can't see the connection). I've had mine for years with nary a problem.

Nope. I suspect the posters know each other.

There is not much to go wrong unless the decocker spring is broken, installed wrong, or the gun was taken apart and not put back together correctly.

you might consider not recommending the gunsmith you dealt with originally.

Original grips. Gun is 2 months old. Has never been taken apart.

Lever travels down and returns but does not decock.

The decocking lever is just stamped sheet metal. It is possible that it is misformed, bent, out of spec. Send it back to SIG or buy a replacement.

Yep, that's what this is starting to sound like. It's possible the tab on the decocking lever that goes inside the frame to engage the sear is bent or broken.

You can check this yourself without any more than field strip...take the slide off, and look inside the frame. There is a metal tab that should be sticking inside the frame that will move up and engage the sear when you push down on the decocking lever. I tried to take a pic, but it's kinda hard to see (sorry for the filthy gun...I didn't realize how dirty it was till I got a light in there Eek).
