I occasionally carry a Sig P220 Compact with the 8 round extension. I have both DA/SA and SAO versions, carry the SAO and they are wonderful shooters - although a bit heavy.

mike56Just bought one myself.
Smith Wesson MP compact, with manual safety. 4 inch barrel, 10rd magazine.
Only thing I did was replace the sights with ameriglos.

Absolute truth here. Look no further.

bczrxI also prefer the 1911 CCO sized pistol for this requirement. I built my own as I am in California, and the CCO is not generally on the list.
Sigs and Non-Sigs: I enjoy having options!

Todd HuffmanMy EDC gun is a Shield .45, and it works great for my needs. I just got a Sig 365 for summertime carry, but in the winter I'll probably go back to the Shield.

FishOnI have an HK 45C that I sent to Rick Holm at Lazy Wolf for an action job, and it is fantastic. It is my home defense choice. Excellent suppressor host as well

gearhoundsWhat constitutes a safety? A physical safety switch like a 1911 pattern gun? Internal safeties like a classic Sig? If easy, safe, and covert concealed carry is the goal, the best safety is between the ears.

pulicordsYou could always try and find the somewhat limited edition P220SAO Compact. Worth the hunt!

OgieColt Defender or Colt Combat Elite Defender?

WatergoatI CC an HK USP 45C. Kramer made me a great holster for it, and at 5 oclock it just goes away. It has a safety, but I never use it. The hammer drop and 1st shot DA is a lot safer. Weight can be a problem. Weigh the various models LOADED. There is where the HK's polymer frame shines. Lighter than a loaded 239-357, or P228, or P220 Carry. Those stainless slides are heavy.

I CC a HK 45C in a Kramer AIWB holster. I am waiting for one for my HK P30 SKS. It should be here any day. These holsters are great.

shkuhnThis is my only compact 45. I don’t carry it, but it is a nice shooter.

V-TailP245. Try one, you might like it!
I bought mine used, the DA trigger was one of the worst I have ever shot. A quick trip to Robert "The SIG Armorer" Burke turned it into an outstanding pistol.

WeshoweGents,
I'm a big fan of Sigs, but my bid for a compact .45, after all my years, goes to a Commander or Combat Commander.
I've carried this one over 20 years and it's gotten me out of one very tough spot. It doesn't get any better than that...
