Gracie Allen is my personal savior! |
So a couple of threads here got me interested, but I can't seem to dig anything up on the internutz. Where are people finding the Zastava M57 Tokarev-type pistols in 7.62x25 with the slide-mounted safety these days?

That model is very sporadic to find, perhaps Classic Arms has them. In the slide mounted safety version you mentioned, the 9mm version is encountered more often than the 7.62 x 25 version, when one is found for sale. Bud's Guns is out of stock , last time I checked. I own two of the frame mounted Safety M57's, but would like to switch to the slide safety version, as I like to carry mine, and they are safer carrying. Most all those Yugo M57's are going to shoot low. Good luck in your search. 美しい犬

SOG was out of the 7.62x25 versions, but I'll get on the "click to notify" list - that's the model I was looking for. Sunset_VA, thanks for the tip about their shooting low. Do you know anything about the new Sellier & Bellot defensive ammo?

I don't reload for the 7.62, and don't shoot surplus or corrosive ammo either. I have had good luck with Winchester 7.62 x 25 (ball ammo) for plinking, and PPV & Wolff hollowpoints. The expansion with the Wolff ammo is hit or miss, the PPV hollowpoints are better. If you want some excellent JHP ammo, try Reeds Custom ammo, in 2 bullet weights, new ammo, not cheap ($35) per 50 rounds. I bought 5 boxes from them some years back, well worth the money, but you may have to wait a while to get it after you place your order, my wait was like 3 months. I have shot it sparingly, using other ammo for plinking. As for shooting low, perhaps the pistols are sighted in for longer distances, But most reviews, and mine included, do shoot low. You are hindered a lot by the tall rear sight, to raise the elevation, an even taller rear sight would be needed, or a lower front sight, which is already very small. I have not had any experience with the S&B ammo, but would like to try it if I happen upon it. http://www.winchester.com/prod.../Pages/MC762TOK.aspx http://shop.reedsammo.com/762x25_c14.htm And grips for your M57..I have a set ordered from this company, makes the Yugo handle much better. https://www.razorarms.com/gallery.html This message has been edited. S&B ammo works well in mine. The gun does shoot unacceptably low as in 12" low at 15 yards. U.S. Army 11F4P Vietnam 69-70 NRA Life Member

I wonder if the loads available are just significantly slower than the ones the commies issued. Sunset_VA, one of the reasons I like the newer versions is that I won't have to figure out what to do with the lanyard when I try those grips. There's also a compensator that may fit older models but not newer ones due to barrel diameter, but I'm hoping to find a way to make that work as well.

Actually, for those pistols shooting low, a heavier slower bullet would impact lower, but at a reduced hydrostatc shock for JHP. I must say, my Yugos have been 100% with all ammo fired, no FTE's/FTF's. One I purchased had a medium corroded barrel. I replaced it with a Kengs surplus Chinese barrel, terrible accuracy, as the bore diameter was different than the European bore ID. Later Gun Parts received some European Tok barrels in, surplus, but never used for about 1/3 what price I paid for the one at Kengs I installed it and pistol Shoots much closer now, but still hits low. 美しい犬
