Glock Performance Trigger in Gen 3 frame? Login/Join

So, I have read the threads but I want to make sure that everyone sees it as I see it. So, on my gen 3 G26 all I need to do is sand down the legs on the trigger housing of the GPT and change the back plate on the slide to a gen 5?

Thank you in advance.

I have read that the Gen 5 back plate isn't even necessary.

Either way, please keep us posted on your progress with this.

Using a standard, unmodified back plate, you wouldn't even be able to mount the slide onto the frame.

You can enlarge the right side cutout of the back plate, but a new gen5 back plate is a few dollars.

Benner, go here. I can't embed the video because it's age-restricted: Glock performance trigger modified for Gen 1 through 4

Thank you, Para. I watched that several times. I believe it looks like the legs on the trigger housing, the back plate and the hook for the firing pin safety on the trigger housing "hook". Those three things and this should work on my gen 3 G26.

I wish the video showed more of what he removed on that hook on the trigger housing. I under why he did but I can't see how much he actually takes off. Also, the metal hook below the polymer hook, looks like he took off some of that with his diamond impregnated wheel on the dremel.

Very informative and gives this old gun guy some hope.

Too bad that Glock doesn't sell the GPT trigger mechanism housing separately, because then you could experiment with it.

I'll be trying this soon myself.

I completely agree. But, I will be getting another one soon for my G26. I have one in my G19 gen5.

The best place I have found to purchase is primary arms with a log in. It shows it for $80.99.

You can also buy a gen 3 timney trigger unit that works on the same concept

At 8:28 in the video, he says "With all the Poly 80s and all the different guns, I'm just worried about this is gonna hit this..."

It sounds like his concern is the effect of variances in all the clones. I intend to round the top of that bevel in the TMH ever so slightly so that engagement with the FPS is at a less acute angle. Just smooth it a bit, and I think it will be fine, but if not, you can always take a bit more off of it. Removing too much would be worse than leaving it alone. I'm not convinced that this part of the modification is necessary. The proof will be in the shooting.

At 11:01 in the video you can see the differences in that part of the TMH between stock and modified.

The part you refer to as the "metal hook below the polymer hook" is the sear holder, and I don't see him making any changes to that part, nor would I think it necessary, because that part of the mechanism meshes with the trigger bar. I see him using his mounted Dremel to smooth the top of the TMH after rounding it off.

You're not going to be grinding any metal in this modification, just two different areas of the trigger mechanism housing.

I'll probably get around to trying this out sometime this week.

Excellent explanation. What you described makes perfect sense to me and makes me feel better about the hook on the TMH.

I, too, will be doing this. I appreciate you taking the time to note the video and times and then typing it all out. The 11 min mark I couldn’t tell if there was any metal but you answered that for me.

I think this will be a very simple mod to make the GPT work in my beloved 26.

Eureka

It came to me last night. I don't know why I hadn't seen it before.

Regarding the top bevel on the GPT trigger mechanism housing, no modification is necessary.

The original GPT, part number 70272, was intended only for gen5 pistols. The GPT which replaced it, 74332, is intended for both gen4 and gen5 pistols. Since the gen4 pistols use the very same firing pin safety as gen3 pistols, no modification to the TMH top bevel is required.

What threw me off was the Johnny Glocks video, in which he talks about reshaping this bevel, but that video was published in April, 2023. The new version of the GPT was introduced a year later. Mind you, there is no difference in the shape of this bevel between the original and new version of the GPT. It's just that Johnny was talking about modifying the TMH at a time when Glock was saying that it would function only in the gen5.

So, with that out of the way, the only modification necessary is to the tail of the GPT trigger mechanism housing.

The photos show a GPT TMH on the left and a gen3 TMH on the right. I joined the two parts by passing a trigger housing pin through the pin holes of both parts so that alignment would be precise. You can see how very little needs to be taken off of the GPT part in order to allow it to seat in a gen3 frame.

I took a mill bastard file and laid it flat on a bench, coarse side up, and rubbed the tail of the housing across the surface, then flipped over the file to the smoother side and cleaned up the tail a bit. It took about two minutes.

I'll try dropping the GPT into a gen3 frame today or tomorrow.

GPT TMH on the left, gen3 TMH on the right. View from the rear.

Thank you, Para! I have yet to order my GPT due to some unforseen expenses. I will be ordering soon, though.

Great idea putting the pin through both housings. Also, what you have shared is very helpful and will make this super easy to work!

Para, have you had a chance to install your GPT? I am ordering mine tomorrow.

Yeah, I installed it. No surprises. A sufficiently trimmed TMH seats in the frame perfectly. Take as little off the tail of the TMH as will allow it to seat fully. You don't want to remove more than necessary. If you remove too much material, you'll be getting close to the trigger housing pin. That single pin (and friction) is all that's holding the TMH in the frame.

Great advice. I appreciate all of your help on this. Do you feel as if this is a worthy upgrade? I guess I’m asking if you’re glad you upgraded your g26 to the GPT?

I ordered the GPT from GT Dist last Friday. I still haven’t received a shipped notification. I’m guessing they’ve sold a lot of ‘em.

I’m excited to get it and get it installed. The only time my G26 is better is when it’s firing and dirty!

Got the GPT and installed using Para’s info. Pretty straightforward. Although, the trigger housing pin seemed a bit harder to get put in than I thought it should have been.

Otherwise, good to go. Now, my G26 is complete. Thank you, Para.

Does the GPT come with a flat trigger? From the pics I've seen, it appears to be different.
