HRKSteel Case Ammo, yea or ney
SG Ammo has steel case 9mm for $136 a case (1000) shipped, pretty inexpensive per round for practice.
I've heard a few people shun steel case ammo, just curious if its worth buying, also since I shoot my glocks more than anything else if there's any issue with steel case and Glock firearms.

CompactsigDon't know about steel, but the Federal aluminum cased 9mm works fin in my Kimber and SIG!

egregoreIn the few hundred rounds of Wolf I put through mine in the early 2000s I didn't have any trouble with functioning with steel case. The powder residue was pretty stinky. Pistol extractors don't have to climb and snap over the case rims. What is the
bullet made of? I wouldn't like it if it was copper-washed steel jacket.

JBird679Consider where you shoot, some ranges don't allow it. That's one of the reasons I stay away. Also good brass ammo is so darn cheap right now that it's not worth it to me.

ARMT GuyPersonally: nay.
"Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying who shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, here am I, send me."

Thumper44My range doesn't allow steel cased ammo either. So I very rarely use it.
The reports of steel cases being so hard that they do terrible damage to your extractor seem a tad overstated, though some take this as an article of faith. Personally, I know lots of guys who shoot steel ammo because it's cheap and they never seem to suffer for it.

GT-40DOCI have a TON of it, but my range will no longer allow it.....bummer!!
June 20, 2019, 01:58 PM
RHINOWSOShoot a lot of it in my Glocks and beater AR15s.

HRKI'll have to check with the range to see about steel, it should be easy to police just drag a magnet around and only the steel will be picked up.
OTOH they have Speer Lawman 147 Brass in 1000 Rounds for $179 not much more than the steel.

Snake207I think the broken extractor bit is more internet lore that anything. One of those things that never dies, just keep getting repeated.
Here's the way I look at it...
A Glock extractor is about $20.
The price difference between a case of Tula and the next cheapest brass equivalent is about $30.
Buy an extractor with your savings, and you're still ahead $10. From there on out it's nothing but savings.

SgtGoldPretty much all I shoot through my 9mm's is steel cased right now. It's cheap and it works.

ZSMICHAELNever steel. I will pay the extra. It is not that much.

roberthNey - but I reload.

grumpy1Never steel cased ammo in any of my pistols. USA made brass cased ammo for almost as cheap. I stocked up big time when Federal had 25 percent off rebate on Federal American Eagle and even at current prices not worth the difference for me.

slyguyI'm in the no thanks camp. Will it work? Of course.
To me it's the fundamental material friction of steel moving through my weapon versus brass.
Which is softer?
I can run regular gas in my V8 auto, but premium is recommended. Guess what I use?
Cheers~

pedropcolaIt’s not much more. Oh brother. Show me brass cased ammo anywhere near 136 shipped. You can’t.
All that bs is internet nonsense. Even if yo did wear out an extractor on your Glock, who cares? With one case you could buy a couple spares with what you save. Besides which, you won’t have to.
As for ranges, they like to sell brass cases. They can’t do anything with steel. That’s it. $$$$. The bullets aren’t steel. Washed or otherwise. The case is mild steel.
Shoot away.
Full disclosure: only issue I have ever had is they don’t feed reliably in Magpul Glock mags. They bind for me. In steel lined Glock mags, no problem. Or any steel mag for that matter.

And Magpul admits it's an issue - I had the same problem once the PMAGs broke in a bit (worked ok initially).
Sidelined my PMAGs, sold a bunch of unused ones off, and now just rock with Glock OEMs.
Steel works great and it's easy to pick up the casing with a magnetic wand!

scsigsI have shot 2 cases of Tulammo and case of Brown Bear.
My G19gen3 had zero issues.
I would even say it's better than Winchester white box.

PrefontaineNope. Only steel case goes through the ak’s. Brass isn’t much more expensive.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
