Sig Sauer releases statement on the P320
I just joined a new club down here. The rso giving the new member orientation had a full history of leo, mil, etc. Canadian but still. lol. It was hard to take him seriously though. He wore a full blown tactical kilt and his gun was in a SERPA. Hmmm.

Well, this is a big deal if it's true. I'm on my tablet, so I can't embed, but this is a link to a video from an FOP rep claiming that Chicago PD has "unapproved" the P320 for duty use. I've found only a couple of other articles referencing this, and they all cross-reference themselves, so I'm not 100% sure if it's true or not...maybe some of our CPD guys here can verify.

Here's something with a little more detail from an established local news source:

Of interesting note, Sig has quietly edited their operator's manuals to recommend Israeli carry. Quote from pg 5 of their P320-M17/M18 manual:

"THE MOST EFFECTIVE SAFETY IS TO CARRY YOUR PISTOL WITHOUT A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER, AND TO LOAD A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER ONLY WHEN READY TO FIRE. Regardless of whether your firearm is equipped with a manual safety you must take steps to protect against unintentional movement of the trigger, particularly if you elect to carry your pistol with a round in the chamber."

It's not just P320s either. Classic Line/legacy pistols, P365, 1911, 2022s, etc carry this instruction under 1.0 SAFETY WARNINGS:

"Always handle your firearm as though you expect the safeties not to work. Do not load a cartridge into the chamber until you are ready to use the firearm."

So, will older unedited pistol manuals go up in value now?

If they recommend not loading the chamber until "ready to use" I would think that strapping it on for carry is when you are using it, not necessarily when you are ready to "fire" it.

That would be my interpretation as well.

Look I think this whole 320 this is a debacle but credit where credit is due the vast majority of firearm manuals caution you not to load a round until ready.

The "voluntary upgrade" manuals. Lol. Man, they are getting really pathetic now.

But wouldn't that be the time that it would be most likely to discharge by itself? Big Grin Also, wouldn't it be unsafe sitting, loaded, in your safe? Big Grin

I read a reply or “review” somewhere recently that made me chuckle. Something to the effect of

“Don’t listen to all the haters. I just crossed 20,000 rounds with my P320 and it hasn’t missed a single beat and I haven’t even had to press the trigger once.”

A gun without a round in the chamber is useless. This looks like Sig trying to get in front of future lawsuits by being able to claim that the user carried the weapon in a manner not recommended by the manufacturer. Their cost cutting made in India MIM components are enough of a reason not to buy any of their current production pistols. I love the old German P series stuff, but I don’t think I can fully trust the P320 or P365 pistols. Shame. They are very accurate guns.

This is a very interesting turn of events for Sig, mostly their official public statements.

Find something like this for me in the manual of another firearms manufacturer:
quote:
"Always handle your firearm as though you expect the safeties not to work."
That is a remarkable statement/caution/warning. Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that this statement is a direct result of the P320's issues?

I have to say that I am floored by this tidbit.

On top of that, it seems this "Don't chamber a round until you need to use the pistol" is hedge against lawsuits. The manual now cautions against carrying a round in the chamber. "Did you read and follow these instructions before you shot yourself in the groin with our product? No? Hey, not our fault. We told you to act like the safeties don't work."

Come on. Unreal.

Carrying with an empty chamber can get you killed.

I still EDC my 320, and have for years, but some of these new developments give me a bit of pause/thoughts of swapping to another platform.

Sig quality and reliability is what brought most of us here in the first place. We were/are willing to pay more for a premium firearm. Sad to say, Sig Sauer is not the same company that attracted me to their products years ago.

Well, the P320 is a great pistol, accurate, fun. Never had issues but we don’t edc them. And, from what I’ve kind of wondered, were all the discharges from the plastic grip modules?
As for the P365, I don’t think there have been any problems with that one. Unless I just haven’t heard of it.
I still think the best ones were the P220, P226, and their 1911’s. Never had any hitches with those, still love them. But am becoming quite fond of the P365 legion, that is a real joy so far. I’m not giving up on Sig yet.

If Sig posts anything anymore they get absolutely obliterated in the comments section.

A few hours ago Sig announced a knife collaboration with Hogue and within seconds folks were unleashing.

Wonder if it’s drop safe. Will this go off randomly in your pocket, etc.

Man, I am not sure how they get out of this.

However the knives look great.
Need to find some more info on them.
