So, most, if not all the SIG Pro magazines I've seen were Mec-Gar, whether the low friction coating or the phosphate. Wondering about provenance.

I bought some mags from a forum member (thanks) here and they are quite different from what I've seem before. Certainly don't appear to be Mec-Gar, not marked anywhere with a maker.

The are phosphate with witness holes on the back and the "pinky" mag base.

My guess is that it is a factory magazine, most likely a Checkmate. And that is only a guess. The witness holes on the back is the new norm, as all the new P229-1 magazines have the witness holes on the back as well.

I have several like that. I think some came from Greg Cote. 2 came with a new 2022 I bought in 2013.

Never had a problem with any of them.

That was the style of magazine that came with my used 2022 I got back in 2006. Before that they were blued with the holes on the side. I do believe mine said Made In Italy though (don't have one handy) so yours could be newer Checkmates as mentioned.

Are the Checkmates still considered, "not as good" ?

I have two blued with side witness holes marked made in Italy, one blues with rear witness holes and one phosphated with rear witness. All work fine, but I do keep the Italian ones loaded for HD, the other two for range, just in case.

No markings on these as to country or maker at all. However, I saw a pick indicating it was an OEM magazine which looked identical with the exception of the white outlining in the writing.

I have a ton of checkmate magazines for P-Series guns. I shoot a lot. Zero issues, and zero issues in classes.

I have a 03 production SP2009 with the same magazines, which is probably one of the last batches to be marked "Frame Made in Switzerland". It came with the same factory magazines, which I am quite sure are are NOT Checkmates. The white outlining is not a factory thing, someone did that themselves.

Pretty sure they are either SIG or Mec-Gar produced, but there are no markings to know for sure. No made in Italy, no nothing.

I don't remember when SIG started using Checkmates, but I'm reasonably sure it was well after my example was produced, maybe 2010ish.
