A person can rest assured that the stock S&W M&P pistol trigger works. But, Agency Arms is famous for improving triggers. A recent acquisition had a trigger kit installed, which worked fine, but (a)had a FDE plastic trigger and (b)had a pull weight of only about 12 ounces. To a retired engineer, it felt about the same as lifting a can of beer, but he sadly doesn't have a scale. Too light for social work, as they say. A heavier pull weight was needed.

So, the retired engineer found a black metal trigger and set about to eliminate the fugly FDE item. While working on the trigger, he looked over the set of parts and springs from the kit. Lo and behold (it is the Christmas season, and we're supposed to talk like this) he saw that the heavy sear spring colored in an endearing purple was NOT installed. Nor was the new conical heavy duty trigger bar spring. Hmmm. Seems like the light trigger pull would be ameliorated by the purple sear spring and the bigger trigger return spring.

Taking it all apart, he set the tiny parts on towels on the workbench. He managed to attach the new metal trigger to the metal trigger bar with a vise he borrowed from a carpenter craftsman, as the forces are too high and the pin too small for banging on it with his nine pound sledge hammer. He was lucky to have stolen two smooth pieces of aluminum plate from his former employer about a year ago, finally finding a use for them as supports for the trigger between the horribly rough vise jaws.

About that time, a beautiful woman appeared at his side. She had blond hair, a Christmas red sweatshirt, tightly fitted black exercise yoga pants, and a soft voice. The lights over the workbench and the engineer's twin light headlamp gave her green eyes a lustre, and her red lipstick nearly glowed. With this distraction, the retired engineer struggled a bit to remove the sear block, the sear, the sear actuator, the sear force post, and the aforementioned sear spring. He finally succeeded, and did not drop anything onto the garage floor. Now, to replace the two springs...

The woman, who has lived with the retired engineer for 33 LONG years, proceeded to assist with the iPad YouTube instructional video control--stopping, rewinding, replaying various segments--and also in thinking through several repair tricks with him. Together they managed through the absence of the kit’s sacrificial alignment rod, a few order of operations reversals, and the reinstallation of the safety gizmo. The woman assisted with pin insertion, pistol positioning, and most importantly the reduction of stress with words of encouragement. The retired engineer could not, with her present, it seems, let loose with a stream of epithets, curses, or phrases he learned from Staff Sergeant Floyd Willoughby, USMC, way back in college.

At the end of the effort, the engineer proclaimed the trigger to be far better. Crisp, no creep, minimal reset distance, and with sufficient but not excessive pull weight. He was pleased with his efforts, but even more excited that the beautiful lady spent time with him in the cold garage.

It is, some people say, another Christmas miracle.

I feel the pain of the retired engineer... I've installed aftermarket triggers/kits in 3 or 4 M&Ps and it's not fun. A slave pin definitely helps. Was the M&P in question a first gen or 2.0?
