Closed a few months ago, I have a series 2, no problems with it. Lots of debt and lawsuits did them in.

Quote:
In 2022, the Cities of Rochester and Buffalo, New York, filed lawsuits against SCCY and several other gun companies alleging that their business practices contributed to gun violence in their respective cities, with “marketing that emphasizes firearm characteristics such as their high capacity and ease of concealment, which appeals to prospective purchasers with criminal intent,” and by “purposely supplying more firearms than the legitimate market can bear in order to induce sales in the secondary market…not training dealers to avoid straw sales and other illegal transactions,” and “refusing to terminate contracts with distributors who sell to dealers with disproportionately high volumes of guns traced to crime scenes.”

Meh. I brought one of their .380's way back when they were new and found it to be a crappy Kel-Tec ripoff with awful recoil and I quickly got rid of it.

I almost bought one in 9mm quite a while back (end of last year maybe?), but after seeing the reviews on them? Nope... nope... and NOPE! Picked up a CZ P-09 instead for not a whole lot more; used but never fired, in case with cleaning stuff and two mags. One of these days I'll get around to shooting it, hopefully soon, as I'm strongly considering selling my W German P226. Even with Hogue G10s on it, the grip is just a bit too fat for my short fingers. Sure wish it felt like my P225 which is my "never part with" pistol!

Sorry for the thread drift... it just me to thinking out loud (via keyboard).

I remember a few companies offered a free SCCY pistol with the purchase of another firearm and I think any other firearm. It's pretty bad when they couldn't give them away. I remember holding a CPX pistol at a local gun shop and it seemed like a brick in my hands and felt larger than any full size gun. They marketed them to women for a while with different colored frames, figuring I guess, they could sell more.

I won't miss them, but it's a shame they were litigated out of business after doing nothing wrong.

Yeah, this is not a win for us. The second amendment doesn’t just apply to people who can afford West German P226’s, it protects poor people who walk to work because they can’t afford a car, or guys who get to choose between paying child support or eating more than once a day. SCCY and Hi Point have a place in this world, as much as our “betters” would love to disarm all of us, they’re just the low-hanging fruit.

Yep, the point isn't the design, color, or quality, although that does play into the situatution.

Their biggest mistake was thinking building a gun business in New York was a good idea.

Any firearms company with plants or HQ north of PA state line is living on borrowed time...

They were made in Florida, New York decided to go after them.

History and design
SCCY Industries was formed in 2003 by Joseph Vincent Roebuck.Originally, the company name was to be Skyy, but after trademark concerns regarding the use of the name by SKYY vodka, the name was changed to SCCY. Since 2010, the company manufactures all firearms in a factory in Daytona Beach, Florida. Prior to 2010, the guns were manufactured in South Daytona, Florida. All sales and marketing for the company is based in Acworth, Georgia, a northwest suburb of Atlanta.[1]

Agreed, it sucks that they went out like that. But I also agree that they're incredibly shitty guns. A buddy had one and we couldn't get it to feed two rounds in a row, no matter what we tried. I have to think they probably weren't bringing in a lot of money due to the quality of their product, and that likely contributed to their inability to fight that baseless lawsuit.

Bronicabill, go shoot that P09! You're going to like it.

I sure would like to! Every day seems to bring on a new challenge, mostly medical/health issues, and having a day where I felt good enough to go to the range always seems to have me putting out some other kind of fire. Right now just trying to keep up with medical costs, hospital visits, and not losing our house to foreclosure... there's simply not enough money to do it all!
