Got a traditional da/sa sig 226 extreme and would like to lighten up the trigger pull without compromising reliability. What hammer spring weight are you using and where did you get the spring? Any other simple fixes for the trigger? ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

I have used as light as 17 lbs without issue. Wolff sells a variety pack of several weights you can try.

Whatever Robert Burke ships with his SuperStrut. Prior to that, I used the OEM spring that fits with the E2 strut assy. When I first updated my W German 226 to that E2 strut assy, I briefly tried a 19lb Wolff spring. But after a FTF at the first range session, I immediately switched to the factory spring. In fairness, I had not yet replaced FP spring, etc in that 30+ year-old gun.

I've used/tested factory and all three Wolff hammer springs on my P229 and P226's. I'd be conservative if it's a carry gun. Test with carry ammo. 1) 19# is a no-brainer. No reliability issues and haven't heard of any on the forum either. I believe GrayGuns uses a 19# on their carry packages. 2) 18# is what I use. No reliability issues using reloads or factory. 3) 17#. Had no reliability issues, but I didn't like the funky DA feel. Also, it reduced the SA pull to the dangerously light level. Don't forget that RP springs on DA/SA pistols reduce the weight of BOTH the DA and SA. I second the three-pak. Every gun is different and the only way to see is try. ______________________ An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. --Nicholas Murray Butler

I have 17s and 19s. Polish the strut and pick one. Polishing the strut will do almost as much as the spring will in the terms of feel.

18# in my Combat, 19# in my AK date coded P226. I think the factory weight is 21# or 22#. I second the Wolff 3-pak, try them all, it isn't hard to change out these springs, the strut isn't hard to get back in place either.

I tried slightly lighter Wolfe springs in one of my P226s but ended up having light primer strikes (all common factory ammo) so I went back to a stock spring.

My original 67# East German spring made it unusable in DA. Ordered the Wolff 3 Spring Pack, installed 19#, and spent a few hours at the range testing and swapping. I think this is your best bet, as the answer is obviously subjective for you. Myself, I settled at 18#, and with a little practice, settled on 18#. I've named that 226 "The Nailer!"
