Hi all been out of the market for a while and was curious on the value of a West German 226 . My local place just got a like new one in and was asking 650 it doesn't have original box and target. Has the scallop cuts in the rails but looks new . Just curious if that is average for them now . Thanks in advance

If it's truly "like new", then that price is good, even with no box, etc., imo.

Scallop rails JH P226? Must be a Tysons Corner.

Saw one at a LGS in VA last week for $599 w/2 mags, no box, some finish wear. I did not handle it but based on the take down lever am guessing it was W. German.

If it is a .40 then it is on the high side of fair. I recently snagged a .40 LE trade in with a like new barrel for $400, but that’s a great deal, the market is closer to $500-650.

If it’s in 9mm that is a great deal.

Yes it was a Tyson's corner . Always nice to handle a West German Sig lol. I was at the store buying a 226 legion and still wanted to buy it just to put with my other one

I Would have already bought it. Coming from the land of whacked out gun prices on anything made last century I am still shocked when I see good stuff at fair prices. Thinking why has nobody grabbed that!

Hi all that poor 226 is still sitting in my LGS . Being that it has the mud rails which I find cool since it was only done for a few years which may be a bad thing . I'm sure for the few times I will shoot a 100 rounds hear and there it should be fine . I guess I'm a sucker for West German 226s lol

Aren't we all.

You'll know you have it bad when you buy a P226 in every caliber.

What is a “JH 226”? I googled “SIG JH 236” but found nothing informative.

"JH" = The 2-letter date code, telling you what year the firearm was proof tested.

J = 8
H = 7
JH = 87 (year 1987)

See HERE.

Thank you. I was suspecting it indicated mud rails.

For the P226, year 1986 (JG), and part of year 1987 (JH), before SIGARMS moved from Tysons Corner to Herndon, VA, it had the mud rails. I'm unaware of any other years that the P226 had the mud rails.

I always get confused about what a mud rail is. It sounds horrible. I remember every time I look it up I’m slightly disappointed because it isn’t heinous at all. I will look it up again and be mildly disappointed.

So was the mud rail configuration done for the US Army trials? To make the gun run reliably in adverse, 'muddy' conditions?
