Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated |
I have some pics of various slides. One is off/for a P228. The rest are P229. I see different style/types or variations in some of the milling. Just a cheaper way? An improvement for functionality? This is the P228 P229 These are wider This has squarish cuts P229 These are more rounded P229 They are all 9mm. Folks on here seem to always know the whys. I'm just looking to learn more about my favorite pistols. Thx folks. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." FBLM LGB!

Well, the difference between the P228 and P229 is the P228 slide is folded carbon steel, where the P229 is milled stainless. The part of the P228 you’re comparing to the P229 is actually a pinned in breech block. That’s also why the P228 has an internal extractor and the P229 is external. The minor differences in the milling on the P229 looks to be related more to the bit that they happen to have used rather than any deliberate effort at changing weight. But that’s no expert opinion or anything. The P320 has all kinds of different milling, presumably as they tried different lightening cuts to get the slide weight tuned. I wanna say someone said they determined it was determined it was all minutia that didn’t end up mattering, but I don’t recall who said that, so my brain may have just made that up. ------------------------------------------------ Charter member of the vast, right-wing conspiracy

I'm aware that the 228 is folded carbon. I just put it out there to compare. Just trying to figure out the other cuts, etc. thx "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." FBLM LGB!
