This reminds me of one of the best sequences from one of my favorite movies "My Cousin Vinny". Ms. Vito..Nobody could answer that question Judge Haller... Can you answer the question? Ms. Vito No. It is a trick question. Unknown ammo, Unknown magazine. There is not a single gun on the planet that can be deemed reliable in that situation, in advance. None. Now having said that I can personally vouch for a few guns that I have shot extensively with normal maintenance and predictive parts replacement that there is a pretty good chance they will go bang. These were my competition guns at one time or another so we are talking tens and tens of thousands of rounds... (this is not a list, its a comma delineated sentence) P226, Glock 34, Glock 17L, HK USP, HK VP9. If you want to get some sense of how some modern guns run take a look at any of the published results for the various military small arms tests. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

My S&W 4563TSW. Always works and is my most accurate pistol. “I used to be totally into Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and other shredders, and I tried to emulate what they did and really grow as a guitarist,” Mr. Hanneman said in “Louder Than Hell.” “Then I said, ‘I don’t think I’m that talented, but more important, I don’t care.’ ”

Many could make the list, but I could always count on my P226 to feed, fire, eject and feed again. Mag after mag pretty much with any ammo. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

First of all, I agree with you. Magazine selection is important, and there are some that are more finicky than others. I've tried my Beretta with PB stamped factory mags, Mec Gar aftermarket, and some military surplus (Checkmate?) magazines, and used everything from hard primer red army crap, steel case, Serbian...you name it...it just doesn't care. Would I intentionally feed my 92 rusty dented ammo from a Promag? Absolutely not. But would I bet against it feeding, firing, and ejecting every round of such? Again, absolutely not. Some of those mentioned are no surprise to me. The Sig P239 and the Glock 19/23 for example. Two of the most reliable arms I have experienced. But some are quite surprising. The P365 for example, as I know experiences varied widely with those, especially in the early days.

If the prior post with "I’m very impressed at round 500." is the kind of thing that give you that impression its reliable we are on totally different pages of what's reliability. And other than 12131 including it on his list I sure don't see anything suggesting it is reliable by actual experience and decent round counts. Heck I wouldn't consider a gun with less than 5K rounds to even be in the discussion of reliable, but that's just me. Nothing against the 365 but I sure don't see anything in this thread to suggest it joins some of the more proven ones. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

I have a 239 and a 229 that both fit the bill, as in I would be extremely surprised/perplexed if they didn’t perform as expected after all these years and thousands of rounds.

I’ve got several that have never failed me through thousands of various rounds, aftermarket mags and various states of cleanliness. But if I had to pick just one autoloading pistol for the rest of my life it would be my Gen3 G19, which has reliably fired the most rounds in the most extreme circumstances. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Lots of them over the years. To name a few, my department issued P226, my own P239, all of my Glock 19s (32 in total) with the exception of using a 10 rd OEM mag during an IDPA match about a dozen years ago - problem fixed by changing the follower. My wife's EDC Glock 26 - over 19,000 trouble free rounds at this time. Lots more over the years, but you just wanted ONE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.

M9. When I was in we shot a lot of shitty ammo over a decade, and if the locking blocks didn’t break-the gun would feed anything and keep on running. Many had over 10k before failure, but if the locking block was replaced every 5k like they were supposed to be, the gun just worked. G19- I had a gen 2 that I personally put put 10k rounds thru and it never hiccuped. I have a gen 4 that I’d expect will continue for 10k or more. Early gen 3 G27. My first GLOCK. Thousands of rounds through it. My brother and I tried one day to make it fail. Couldn’t be done. Second would be my first auto pistol. Ruger P85. There are others but these are what come to mind and have been flawless for 20-30 years. ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! The defense is wrong. I’ve broke SIGs and Glocks. But, they would be my choices as the most likely ones that would never fail me. Fact is, you put enough rounds and dry fire into a gun and parts will break. Same goes with the AR15 I’d pick.

Sig 220 ST Never had an issue, never. Same for my Glock 17, which ran 2 years without cleaning. This was just to see how long it would last… never did hiccup, finally cleaned it out of guilt. Note: I did lube necessary points. Great guns, both of them!
