I’ve been waiting for Colt to bring them back and now they have. I bought a 3” Python a couple years back and it’s absolutely fantastic. I imagine these are the same, tight, smooth, and well finished. I’ve got a 4” Redhawk that would be jealous, but I just can’t deny it any longer. Talk me out of it please.

Oh, definitely a nice gun and clambering. I always liked their big Snake but most I have seen were the .44. The 45 Colt just has a home in that big revolver. Therefore...post pictures when you have it home.

Really? You came here for US to talk you out of a gun purchase?

Are you sure you went to the right Forum?

We're a bunch of enablers here!

In short, I will summarize the comments:
If you got the money, go get the gun, and ammo, and go have fun!

If they come out with blued versions I'm going to have a fun time deciding whether to get a 6" version or go nuts and get an 8" version. The 4' version should be pretty neat, though.

Where you thinking of matte or stainless steel?

No

In all seriousness though, I'm really happy with mine. The factory Hogue grips weren't my favorite, but I found an old set of Pachmayr Presentation grips and fixed that problem. I also went with Wilson sights to have the same sight picture as my 3" Python.

I've had it for a few weeks and only had one range trip in so far, but it's a solid gun and I'm glad I got one.

Well Ruger does have a version of the Redhawk right now, cut for moon clips so it will shoot both .45ACP and .45 Colt...

If it was cut for ACP moon clips I’d really really want one.

I have the Anaconda and the S&W 629 Competeter. The S&W is about 4 ounces heaver and is easy on the recoil but it doesn't come close to being as spectacular as the Anaconda. Buy it!

Always been a fan of the .45LC since i bought my second revolver, a Colt 1909, it's just a pleasant loading to shoot and reload for. Bought the parts from a police confiscation sell off, a S&W .45LC mountain gun, less the receiver, you know how hard it is to find just a stripped stainless N-Frame?

Well here it is next to my Redhawk in 45 Colt.

Some observations: this thing is BIG.

The cylinder is longer than the Redhawk’s. I was actually able to chamber and cycle with a Magtech 454 Casull round, but not a Hornady.Probably the bullet shape and heavy crimp keeping the brass from catching the cylinder wall. Plenty of room for that size or even larger round. Makes me wonder if they are considering a 454 Grizzly, or at least keeping the option open. Would likely have to consider position of cylinder notches and an unfluted cylinder. Curious to get solid measurements on the top-strap dimensions/thickness.

I need to break out the calipers, but the circumference appears to be close to the Redhawk. Chamber wall thickness appears to be a little bit less, but much more than my 25-5.

DA Trigger is a little heavier and not quite as smooth as my 2022 Python. No surprise there. It’s heavier than my well used Redhawk, which has digested thousands of rounds. I imagine it will smooth up and lighten over time as the Redhawk has, and I intend to shoot the piss out of it over the next couple months

The cylinder throats pass .452 lead and coated bullets from Penn (RIP) and Missouri Bullet fairly easily, but with what I’d describe as an acceptable amount of resistance (light finger pressure).

My Redhawk had the cylinder throats honed to.4525+ by Bowen (will pass a .4525 pin gauge but not a .453) and is quite accurate. The same bullets are pretty tight in the Redhawk, leading me to think the Anaconda’s throats are .453+ probably worth slugging the throats and barrel to get an exact reading. Will have to dig out my Calipers and Mic. Hopefully the diameter of the 452 bullets is adequate to prevent leading and that the throats to forcing cone dimensions are correct. I’ll update when I get new batteries for the Mic and Calipers and some fishing weights to pound through the cylinder and barrel.

All in all a really cool gun. Looking forward to loading up some 255 & 300 grain bullets somewhere between hot SW 25 and Ruger level. Hopefully someone more authoritative like Brian Pearce comes along with a strength analysis and load suggestions for this behemoth.

.45 Colt is a great cartridge. I load on the light side for comfortable shooting in my Smith M-25. However, if you want, you can really load some heavy and fast bullets.

First time I’ve been excited for a new gun in a while. It’s pretty nice so far, though I’m going to need to start dry firing in order to lighten/smooth the trigger a bit.

To me the small for case diameter rim of the 45 Colt is just perfect for what it is designed for, single actions. To each his own if you don't select a cartridge designed for double action revolvers.

Have never had a problem with ejection in any of my 45 Colt DA’s although I understand it is somewhat more likely.
